I know what you mean. I've had the chance to visit a few WW2 era American Submarines and it's cramped quarters all the way and certainly not for the claustrophobic. Those that served were special but submariners were a breed apart.

Subsim members last year had a meet in Hamburg Germany and visited a type 7 U boat ( U-995 ) in Laboe Germany. U-995 was said to be of an excellent design but also very cramped. You can ask subsim members Catfish and Blitzkrieg about the meet and Submarine and also look through the forums for pictures taken and posted here in the forum.
