Hello All
Hello SubSim community,
Just wanted to pass along a quick intro about myself. Been a lurker for just under a year trying to learn about SH3. This past weekend I ended up finally catching the bug and getting into the game so I figured I would start learning from the professionals. Been a casual sub fan., played 688 Attack Sub as a kid. So far I have had the opportunity to tour the USS Nautilus and the USS Pampanito. I grew up about 20 minutes from New London, CT with family who work at Electric Boat (as well as a great grandfather who worked on the USS Nautilus) and one grandfather who did a tour in the Sea Bees. I myself am an Active Duty Gunner's Mate in the shallow water navy (US Coast Guard) with 9 years in and running. That's a quick run down of me, hope to see you all in the forums! V/R, - GM_Skidjit |

Welcome to Subsim GM-Skidiit. :sunny: Nice introduction as well. That's quite a family history in the Navy. :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:
I'm sure we would like to hear of your impressions of the USS Nautilus and the USS Pampanito when you have a chance. Enjoy your time here and your sims and thanks for your service as well. |

The Pampanito made WW2 submarine operations and living very real to me. Couldn't imagine spending the time those Sailors did underwater in war time conditions. Caught under the sea with possible enemy sub hunters looking for you with one thing in mind: your demise. |
Welcome aboard, buddy :)

I know what you mean. I've had the chance to visit a few WW2 era American Submarines and it's cramped quarters all the way and certainly not for the claustrophobic. Those that served were special but submariners were a breed apart. Subsim members last year had a meet in Hamburg Germany and visited a type 7 U boat ( U-995 ) in Laboe Germany. U-995 was said to be of an excellent design but also very cramped. You can ask subsim members Catfish and Blitzkrieg about the meet and Submarine and also look through the forums for pictures taken and posted here in the forum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqFViPZOk5w |
