I believe sub handling characteristics are straight from TMO. We haven't visited that part of the game yet but it is on our docket. Under certain conditions planes can see you below periscope depth. If you are in those conditions for a length of time they will see you often! Most of the time, a dive to 90 or 100 feet will get you below where they can spot you. They are better than stock planes at figuring out where you are by your dive location and course. These planes are purposely nasty to eliminate John Wayne players who want to just take 'em out with their AA guns. In FOTRS Ultimate that's a spectacular way to die. You'll also find enemy warships to be uncannily accurate. They can and will hit you with the first or second salvo from 9000 yards out. They have a great gun platform and men motivated and trained to be the best. You have a lousy gun platform and men who man the deck gun if they want to die. Your deck gun IS a great place to dry laundry. Otherwise it's quicker and more effective to point your finger at the enemy and yell "Bang! Bang!" then scurry below quickly. I have had some success playing "Jack in the Box" against subchasers and small gunboats. I pop up, take two shots, submerge, zip to a new location at high speed, then pop up again to repeat the process until one of us is dead. This gives you the advantage. Probably not recommended against a DD! To quote Ducimus, some unrealism is necessary to induce realism in how a player plays the game. FOTRS Ultimate is sometimes unrealistic to create realism. You are supposed to be afraid for your life. The real submariners were.

That's one of the few times when wave action is slight and the water is clear. I'm at decks awash, 30' depth, there. It's the deepest I can run the diesels and I can submerge basically instantly. It's great for night attacks!

OK, I'm on the big computer now... I'm just too slow on that tablet...

... as for that picture of your boat RR, it was the tablet. I can clearly see on the computer that you've got decks awash... ... and for ArditoCorsaro: I couldn't find the original post, so this is just a straight link to the video, but if my memory serves me correctly, I had like 32x or 64x TC going at the time, got a radar contact which brought me down to 1x TC, I was already on the chart screen, and had an 8500 circle sitting there. I marked where the airplane was, and he was over 9200 out, going at a 100 degree AOB to me, practically straight across. While I'm doing all this marking up, he does a right-angle turn, and comes right at me, so lets say he is 9k out at the time of his turn. So I hit "Crash Dive!", and before all the noise mayhem stops, there's two more planes coming my way on the radar from about 10k out. I turned the boat towards them, hit 210 or so on the depth, since I already knew about where the thermal layer was, and I expected a DD to come visit, since I know the Single Missions I was testing. Once I hit the thermal layer and go to Ahead 1/3, turn hard left, and that's when the bombs start to fall. Now, that exact spot where they bomb towards the beginning of the video, is where they continued to bomb for the next while, back and forth with the DD and the airplanes. By the time "The Incident" occurs, there's like 8 airplanes on the scene, all targeting the same general location. So, while it ~looks~ initially like they're good, they really aren't. Now, if the DD would have been closer, he would most likely have heard me, and then I would have had that whole crew parked on top of me while they did all those bombing run. I do think though, that "The Incident" would still have happened, 'cause those fly-boys are just a little bit overboard with their enthusiasm... We do have to change their Superman eyesight though... Able to see a submarine from 9200, and at 200 foot depth... Last edited by propbeanie; 12-03-16 at 10:11 AM. Reason: two left hands at work... 2nd edit for readability |

Hello max-peck... where did you download your FotRS UPB v0.040 from? The "fix" is in there. If you look in your download, you should see 4 "zero-length" files for 42b_US_CoastalTraffic.mis, 44b_US_CoastalTraffic, 44b_US_TaskForce, and US_Minefields.mis, along with a Campaign.cfg file modified on 11.28.16 November 28th, 2016, that is 37,968 size...

Alright, how'd you get the family movies from my brother? How much did you have to pay for them? That's the public beach on Lake Michigan, and I'd like to say I mis-calculated the incoming waves, but as you can see, there isn't a whole lot of wave activity anyway. Mom dropped the camera from laughing so hard, that's why the segment is so short... Wait! I was wearing purple polka-dotted shorts that day... that isn't me...

Fear
If your goal was to instill fear you have achieved it. I loaded the Beta last night and tried it out this morning. Two careers and two dead boats and crew in one mission each. I am a relatively seasoned TMO 2.5 skipper, but have never run up against clairvoyant DD crews until today. The one I just concluded (by death) was in December 1941 off Honshu I dispatched a European Liner and one DD (with a lucky shot after he passed me by in a rush). The other DD was a true bird dog. Silent running, depth changes to 440 feet in a Tambor, speed at 1 knot, and this guy was all over me. If I raced at flank speed with my tail to his tail and changed course he unerringly attacked me on his next pass. I had the career difficulty set at "realistic" for the first one, and "normal" for this last one. If that is normal I'm just going to request a desk job someplace! By the way, are there any Mods yet specifically for the Ultimate FOTARS, or should we be experimenting with whatever? I think the environment is beautiful. The only anomaly I've seen is that at the highest resolution of 1920x1080, the stopwatch is almost off the screen, but I was able to grab it and move it to a more visible location. Is that a resolution issue or something in my rig? Anyway, great job, guys! Thanks.

As of yet, no "official" mods that go on top of this, and probably our first one will be the "difficulty" settings... You are more than welcome to experiment with putting stuff in, but if you would, document things for us, and let us know how any modding you do on top goes, so that we can pass the info on to others. I wouldn't add any vessels. If you want one added to the catalog, let us know, and we can try to add it to the anticipated add-on for ships. One thing to remember, is that there are 200+ ships & planes already in this, not counting all the different permutations of them with the skinning and nationality differences. A lot of the "definitions" and "calling" for the vessels is different from TMO and stock. |

Congrats for your work guys.
I gave a try on v0.40 PublicBeta, starting a campaign with Asiatic fleet in December 1941.When I completed the first mission objectives,I decided to return to Manila but I realized there're no anchors over harbors on the map.I tried to approach Manila but the option to End Patrol-Rearm/Refuel didn't come up. |

Just one issue to report, a texture problem for the hatsuharu DD, well I think it was a hatsuharu.

Another things I've found with the Alaskan Campaign ArditoCorsaro, is that what there is of it in the PatrolObjectives folder isn't "activated" in the DynamicMiss.cfg file, so more editing is needed yet still more again... I'll be later than I wanted with an update for that...
