Well, I guess 90 years old isn't bad for someone who was once near the top of the CIA hit-list. Still, whatever your opinion of him, you can't argue that he was a pretty influential figure of the 20th century, but I don't think he'll be mourned by too many, especially in Florida.

Might have to watch Thirteen Days again tonight.

A significant portion of the Miami population might be headed south now.

Icon12 The art of war: keeping the 'back channel...lit!

Truly a memorable Thanksgiving!: The man caused a lot of firsthand misery: I played with a Cuban refugee family living across the street since 1959 in Minnesota and went on to college with one of the sons- now a lawyer in Minneapolis; they told a different version of glorious "Viva Fidel" Nuthin ' wrong with his cigars though Cohiba is #1
Quote:
US Supreme Court hands Cuba a(name-brand rights) victory over its cigars February 25, 2015
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cohiba_(cigar_brand
) One of life's guiltier pleasures as it violated the 'trading with the enemy act embargo'! John F. Kennedy was careful to obtain his own supply of 1000...before he signed the embargo into effect in 1962...Since Obama has lifted the embargo, I wonder if it'll be as much fun.

In line with current perceptions and further blamestorms, thanks Obama for defeating an old enemy of state.

Well, he stuck around a lot longer than I thought. I expected these news years ago when his health was in decline. Although I personally perceive this as great news: condolences to Castro family.

It will be interesting to see what happens when Fidel's brother Raul (current head of state) passes away (he is 85 years old).

Going to tell you a story that occurred between middle and late 80s

On the stairwell where I lived at that time, a young couple from Chile moved in few floors below me. Some month later I and some others living on this Stairwell was invited to afternoon coffee.

We sad in the Living room and I noticed they had a big picture of Fidel Castro.

A week late or so I meet the husband and I asked him if he or they looked up to him.

He said-yes we worship him and we love him for he is the only one who dare to fight USA and its fight the US and its attempts to gain greater influence in South and Central America (this part I'm not 100 % sure if I remembered it correctly)

Then I said-I have heard his is an awful Dictator

- Another one of these propaganda lies that goes around, and it's not true, he said to me in a reply to my alleged

Throughout the years I learned that they weren't the only one looking up to Castro in South and Central America.

People look up to strong-man leaders, they did and some still do look up to Stalin, Hitler, Mao. It all depends on how you were treated during their regime and how you feel about them politically, after all, one of the things often said about Mussolini is that he 'made the trains run on time'.

We all have seen, probably, pictures and films showing the incredible, unbelievable shabbiness of homes and the poverty in Cuba. Stolen lives and destroyed hopes and prevented futures for millions and millions. These ruins that people call their homes, the dumping grounds inside such ruins that people call a kitchen or a living room, these heaps of rugs that people call their beds.

This crime against humanity is evertyhing importan one needs to remember about this god-damn bastard. Shall he burn in hell, this socialist rightous sucker. To be dead enobles nobody, dying your death does not free you of the crimes you committed during youre life time, that you turn old and pass away is no reason why your sins shall no longer be named as such.

The glorification to be heard in some European politicians words, are unbearable. But they show what sick perverts these politicians are themselves. If Lation America still wants to celebrate all this and this man, then I think it just got, until today, what it rightfully deserve. To be gullible does not free you of your responsibility for the choices you make and for the loyalty you invest.

Socialism in action. Wonderful, Mr Maximo Leader. Good riddance to you.
