Coming from a medical background, I would be more than interested to know if there are any reports on the health of the sailors who served on those boats out floating around somewhere. Combination of noise and exposure to different chemicals would make an interesting topic.

I'm not sure how much noise-dampening is obtained by the hatch between the aft crew quarters and the engine room, but the crew sleeping in the torpedo room and the officer and PO bunks are more than 150 feet from the engines, so that might help.
