An okay-launch for the German team into the tournament: not less, but also: not more. 2:0, in parts showing okay gameplay. But the Germans presented a shaky defense, were extremely lucky in the time from minute 30 to 45, and the attack is too often lacking the needed precision.

As a tournament start, it was okay, but they have to improve. Ukrainian team was good, full of fighting spirit in first half, lacking breath in the second, but always trying to fight - however, the Ukrainians are not Spain, Italy, the fast, agile English attackers I saw yesterday, the French. For being on par with the Spaniards or to defeat their Angstgegner Italy, the Germans need more: precision, better defence, safe routine.

Boateng's last-second defense on the goal line is one of those unique moments of the tournament, no doubt. And Schweinsteiger's reporting back on duty in overtime will certainly also be the material for stories being told. But he has not really lost in weight, if I can trust my eyes?! Neuer sowed why he was voted the world'S best goalie in the past three consecutive years. No field player in the german team who rewalyl showed obvious weaknesses and deficits that would have put them in question. Seems to me Löw put a good team together.

Good referee, no obvious errors by him, and an unobstrusive but fully sufficient presence. Also, no really nasty, really evil fouls were played.

Compliment to the team in yellow, they had their moments for sure. The result could have been a draw or even a win for Ukraine, too.

Thursday it will be against Robert Lewandowski and ten others. One of the world's absolutely best strikers - this will show what the German defence really is worth. Today's performance would not stop him, I think.

According to some prosecutor in France, the investigation has come to the conclusion, that it was the Russian supporters who started the riots.

In the Danish newspapers, it says Russian politician have given their supports to these hooligans

Moreover, also in the article these hooligans seems well trained in what they do and have taken hooliganism to a new level

Well one at least certainly has.

Meanwhile, an ultra-nationalist Russian politician has praised the country's fans for fighting England supporters and has told them to "keep it up!"

Igor Lebedev, who also sits on the Russian Football Union executive committee, said on Twitter: "I don't see anything wrong with fans fighting."

He said the violence was "not the fans' fault" and blamed the French police's "inability to organize such events".

One can wonder if the Russians involved understand anything of what consequences are concerned. Official support is not the card you want to play if you want to have a team in any upcoming international events

Time will show how that works out. Might be an issue, controlling their athletes'... medications... if their officials are all high as kites or busy working late night with Igor at the chemical lab.

Been a while since the Headhunters made headlines but they never got much open support from MPs.

Time will tell...

Russia have been given a suspended disqualification.

Quote:
Russia will be thrown out of Euro 2016 if their fans cause further trouble, says European governing body Uefa.

The Russians have also been fined 150,000 euros (£119,000) following violent scenes at the game against England in Marseille on Saturday.

The suspended disqualification and fine relate only to incidents that happened inside the stadium.

When will a team learn to never underestimate an opponent in a game

Two time on this day we have been witness to two big surprises

Hungary beating Austria and Iceland manage to play equal against Portugal.

if Portugal should have any chances to advance they have to win the next two game, a draw is not enough or maybe they could advance as one of the best third

Mapuc, one country team can not aspired to win (yes, because programs/people/commentators here did give that idea, because we could win do the X factors [group, team, ronaldo, etc.] and being in France), and then tie/draw...

Cry-baby Ronaldo at it again:

I thought they'd won the Euros the way they celebrated at the end, it was unbelievable. When they don't try to play and just defend, defend, defend this in my opinion shows a small mentality and they are not going to do anything in the competition
What a clown!

This guy is so far up himself it's astonishing.

I knew he was beforehand but does this guy even have a minute level of respect for anything other than his hair, his football skills?

What a clown!
He did notice they scored a pretty cool goal against them because their defense failed hard, does he? He probably didn't notice because he was fixing his hair while the ball wasn't up front with him anyways.

Iceland was a joy to watch, they did the only thing they could do and they did great. They fought like warrior poets. They fought like Vikings.
It is unrealistic, but I'd love them to win the whole thing - how awesome would that be?
And I'd love to see Portugal not even making it beyond group-phase...
