Thanks all for the warm Welcome. Technically my name should be "Sawyer" but that's what I get for not spell checking (and yes I did only just notice this today...I blame the fact that my allergies are starting their twice-yearly run me over cycle...)

In other news, I finally got my first kill in SH4: 21 missed torpedoes later, I finally smacked one into a medium composite and finished it off with the deck gun. Oy, this is gonna be interesting.

Welcome aboard SaywyerAWR!

Ignore Acktungbby, everyone else does. Especially when he goes off on his history nerd tangents and bad jokes.

We're all history nerds here, so we like the tangents and will join in. We're all full of bad jokes, just check out the joke thread.

Forget Wolferz's oar, I'm the unofficial, self appointed assigner of jobs around here. Grab a large scoop shovel, the bilge needs some cleaning.

As I recall I put you in charge of the catapault's rockpile so U could 'blow up something'...and just for the history tangent, so poor bottom-deck rower-recruit SawyerAWR knows what he's in for...on a really bad bad day: I give you the greatest Sea battle in recorded history!! YUP! the one that ended a war and put 'paid' to an empire. 405 BC, at Aegospotami: the Spartans, having been horrifically slaughtered the year before at Arginusae
losing 70 ships to the Athenian's 25, managed somehow to suck it up and completely annihilated the Athenians, capturing 150 of 170 ships and executing the Athenian 3,000 sailors, mostly proud upper-class Athenian rowers-there were no slave rowers on warships; that's Hollywood crapl "Fearing the retribution that the victorious Spartans might take on them, the Athenians resolved to hold out from the siege, but their cause was hopeless. Without a fleet to import grain from the Black Sea, Athens was on the verge of starvation, and the city surrendered in March 404 BC. The walls of the city were demolished, and a pro-Spartan government was established. The Spartan victory at Aegospotami marked the end of 27 years of war, placing Sparta in a position of complete dominance throughout the Greek world and establishing a political order that would last for more than thirty years." So row well SawyerAWR! edit: fixed

Ask Neal to fix it. Neal can fix anything.

Wolferz, is it bad that my mother actually named me after Tom Sawyer? Mark Twain is her favorite author...I'm just glad she didn't name me Huck!

Like History, what time period is your favorite ?

Mine is The American civil War, WWII and a little of Europe 1900 to about 1950/1960 And what I can find to read.

Some month ago I heard the story about Rome very interesting.

Right now I'm reading and watching videos about WWI.

Default whats my favorite history period you say...?

Markus, for me its "Modern" Military history: personally I define that as the Boer War forward just for conveniences' sake. Now that doesn't mean thats the only thing I like: I love naval history, and the Civil war is pretty interesting to me too (especially the Naval side of it) but mostly its 20th century and later.

Oh, and industrial history: especially railroads, trains, planes, ships, you name it!
