radar Escort radar

So, with all the things I've been up to, I thought that maybe it would be nice to take a break and actually play the game so I ran a couple of patrols in my current career.

On the most recent patrol, I was trying to attack a Horai Maru with a pair of escorts and one of the escorts had radar. This is the first time I've encountered that in this career and since the radar warning receiver uses the same line as the sonar contact line I thought it was just a sonar contact. I just couldn't figure out how the bastards where spotting me in dark from so far away.

The first time they spotted me, I was trying to close off the beam of the escorted ship to identify it and I noticed the escorts heading right at me so crash dove away. They dropped some charges where I was but didn't get very close.

Figuring it was just a fluke, I tried again. When I saw the escorts heading my way again, I did a crash dive and this time they got a good bead on me, but I managed to give them the slip after a half dozen or so depth charge attacks.

Wondering if it was a bug, I got some distance and did a save-exit-load and started to try again. That's when it finally hit me that the bearing line the game was showing me was for the radar warning receiver...

After realizing what was up, I just skirted the edge of their radar range, got ahead of them and torpedoed the transport. These same escorts then depth charged me a third time. This time it felt like they chased me all over the ocean and my boat even took some minor damage, which is really rare for me these days.

I had that happen to me as well. It was late in the war, and I picked up a three ship convoy on Radar, which turned out to be a Cruiser, and two Escorts. While getting into position, one of the Escorts turned right towards me, and came on full steam. I know I was out of his visual range, so I was surprised to say the least! I managed to evade, and tried again. I began to think that it was the Cruiser that had the Radar guiding the Escorts, and this was the Japanese equivalent of a Hunter Killer Group. Surprising to say the least!

I had three PT boats two Destroyers and a merchant with guns out her fantail keep me down in the Bungo for three days. Anything under about 8000 yards the PT boats picked me up on radar and came swiftly to try to and kill me.
