If we pretend they were a wise use of power then the fact that the U-Boats weren't adequate for the job rears its ugly head. It's a fact that Germany could have done better with fleet boats. But America would have lost the Pacific with a fleet of Type VIIs. You can't take a knife to a gunfight and end up winning.
