If all you're going to run is simple apps, then yeah windows might be doomed. Their current drive for the last few years has been to turn all the PCs running windows into X-boxes.

Sad to see all those nice folks in Redmond get the axe because upper management has their heads up their backsides. But, it's typical in this globalized economy.
