This video adds a human touch to the recent lay-offs Microsoft had indicated would take place.

On the morning of July 17th, the company held a meeting with roughly 150 people in Redmond and announced the layoffs. The former employee in the video said that he had no idea that the layoffs were coming, although there were plenty of signs that the head count reduction was occurring based on rumors and Nadella's letter to the employees. The former employee in the video was laid off after 15 years at the company, so it wasn't only new heads that were cut for the acquisition of Nokia.

It's never pleasant to see anyone lose their job, especially when you take into account the knock-on effect it can have on not only the individual but also on their loved ones and local community.

Sadly, this is becoming more common every day the world over.

That's worrisome. My older daughter's husband works for Microsoft.

Mass layoffs could be detrimental for MS, as these people have inside knowledge of the systems and could, as a collective + many other talented people out there, go for it on their own.

This could be the rise of the alternative OS's... as the MS castle crumbles into dust.

I really think it's a big mistake for MS to dive 'balls-n-all' into the mobile market.... we'll see though.

I thought it was absolutely crazy for Microsoft to be developing Android phones. I guess someone in the micro bureaucracy finally woke up to that fact. My prediction is that the Android operating system is going to eventually kill windows. Its a fast clean operating system.

This joke of an OS is so full of bloatware and garbage you can hardly handle it w/o being molested by hundreds of apps telling you to install them all the time, let alone being molested by your provider charging much too much money for their "services", and you have no control at all about what the updates install on "your" phone. And it is NOT user-friendly.

An Android phone is not your phone. It is a Google listening and eavesdropping and advertising device, and they do with it what they want, at your cost.

It is an atrocity. And yes, since 5 months with a HTC One I know what i am talking about. :shifty:

I hear Windows 8 is similar with such bloatware. If MS continues that (Google) way they will indeed vanish. No one apart from 13-year old Bronies and Justin Bieber fans can like this atrocious ... no i won't say it :dead:

If all you're going to run is simple apps, then yeah windows might be doomed. Their current drive for the last few years has been to turn all the PCs running windows into X-boxes.:-?

Sad to see all those nice folks in Redmond get the axe because upper management has their heads up their backsides. But, it's typical in this globalized economy.

If I'm not mistaken .. this has only happened since Bill Gates 'retired' as head of MSoft. These new guys are just a bunch of ..a holes.
