Because if it's about guns it will get merged with all the other gun threads. Is that what you want?

Elliot Rodger set out to punish all woman and then killed more men.

And he wonders why girls didn't like him. He was clearly gay..

Watching the news about this pathetic crybaby, I see people talking about "red flags that were missed", but I don't see any. He was found to have this Asperger Syndrome, but he was being treated for it and taking his meds. He was lucid, high-functioning, well-spoken, and in his own words perfectly capable of lying to defer suspicion. He was certainly a misogynist, but there was no obvious reason to think anyone should've "picked up" that this guy was a homicidal misogynist. A lot of people are saying that he "obviously had a serious mental illness", but the only things that apparently make that "obvious" are his killing spree and the manifesto which he didn't release until moments before his killing spree.

Tragically, it seems that sometimes there are no "red flags". Sometimes there's just absolutely no way to tell and nothing that can be done to find these folks out before they decide to self-detonate.

It's like trying to predict where and when lightning will strike.
Sometimes you can feel the hair stand up on your arm but by then it's too late to avoid being struck.

Just another example of life on this planet, surrounded by semi-intelligent apes that can go postal without warning.
Since living in fear of death isn't a sane life choice, Mind your surroundings and be ready for the end when it comes. Other than that... enjoy it while you can.

Analysis is always a lot easier after the fact.

Unfortunately, there was probably no way to tell what this guy would do. There are probably hundreds/thousands of losers like this guy who don't go around killing people.

Equally, unfortunately, there is probably no way we, as a society, can prevent such horrible criminal acts being committed.

Life is not, nor can be made, safe. If any ordinary citizens chooses to kill another ordinary citizen, there is little that can be done to prevent it if the killer is properly motivated... especially if the killer is not interested in getting away with the crime.

Yes, it is scary.

wouldn't you describe his family calling the police to see if they can put him in involuntary detention due to his mental health issues as a "red flag"?

Perhaps it was the mess that did it... I've got Asperger's Syndrome, and I don't need meds

It's like each mass murder encourages and inspires the perpetrators of the next one. The question should be "What are we doing as a society to create these monsters?"

For one thing, giving them the media celebrity treatment. Herostratus' fame.

I honestly think that sensationalization of such stories is far more to blame than either mental health or gun ownership issues in most of these cases.
