Hello everybody!

Nice community!

I always wanted to play SH3 from the time of his release but couldn't for many reasons... now it's time to sail!

I bought the Steam version and installed GWX 3.0 GOLD.
Spent some hours just in the training missions to get the right feel of the uboat and learning the controls, the men and sea

I'm having a great fun just by calculating and plotting courses, measuring angles and distances of everyting and plotting like hell in the map

I'm still learning in the process, atm I want to improve my ability to identify and gather data of a contact (I want to play with max "realism" settings, don't want to rush but do everithing with care where possible).

So, this is mi current mod situation:
-----------------
GWX - 16km Atmosphere
GWX - Axis Mediterranean Aircraft Skins
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Integrated Orders
GWX - Main movie - 'Das Boot'
GWX - No Medals on Crew
GWX - Open Hatch Mod
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
Flags_enlighten
TMTv2+ThomsensShips v4.4 for GWX3+Xtra ships
-----------------

Can you give me suggestions about mods to add?

I'm especially looking for mods that improve the "plotting" and "navigation" aspect of the game (better looking map and/or better map interface, tools, and so on).

In particular I would like a better nomograph than the one shipped with GWX (it is too small, hard to read on a 1366x768 native laptop monitor with the game only using 1024x768 pixel area).

For me it's important to retain GWX compatibilities... for example: I tried Thomsen's sound pack but I disabled it when I discovered in game that the function "Heading to View" accessed via one of the Officials (thanks to GWX Integrated Orders) no more worked.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated, thank you

And... Subsim.com rocks!

Thank you very much for the info. In fact, I already found & red that specific thread (and many others) and finally I have compiled a sort of wishlist for a mod soup that should fit my whises/needs, here it is:
Quote:
MEGAMOD
-GWX 3.0 GOLD

SOUND
-Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg

GUI
-MAGUI mod - Final version

GAMEPLAY
-SH3 Commander v 3.2 (+ GWX3 Cfg files for SH3 Commander v 3.2)
-LifeBoats&Debris_v4
-Flags_enlighten
-TMTv2 + ThomsenShips v4.4 for GWX3 + Xtra ships
-Unit damage from fire and smoke

ENVIRONMENT
-M.E.P v4.3
-Moon light mod v 1.0
That should be enough, for a long while

My actual situation is this:
Quote:
Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg
GWX - 16km Atmosphere
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Main movie - 'Das Boot'
GWX - No Medals on Crew
GWX - Open Hatch Mod
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
Flags_enlighten
TMTv2+ThomsensShips v4.4 for GWX3+Xtra ships
Feel free to comment my list (for example, in my ignorance I could have selected some mods that are not compatible and it is a well known fact...)

Ok, in this post I will show you my current, pretty "final" (for a while at least ) mod list, SH3.
I'm doing this because I red a thread where another user has solved a little quirk simply sorting his activeted mods using a different "logical order".

This "logical order" was somenthing in the line: first heaviest mod/expansion, then GUI mods, then SHIPS mod, then GRAPHICS, then GAMEPLAY and finally SOUND mods.

So, In my current carrier/patrol my mod list is:
Quote:
Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Main movie - 'Das Boot'
GWX - No Medals on Crew
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
Flags_enlighten
TMTv2+ThomsensShips v4.4 for GWX3+Xtra ships
TheDarkWraith_Ship_Plane_Fire_Damage_v1_4_SH3
MaGui F
TorpedoSolutionButton for MaGui F (NYGM-GWX-WAC)
M.E.P v4.2
M.E.P v4.2 to v4.3
Optional - FSF for MEP v4.2
Optional - ShipVanishingHull for MEP v4.3
M.E.P v4.2 - VisualSensors for GWX3
Moon_light_mod
Officer 3D icons
OLC's Modified Searchlight Beams for GWX3
Das Boot Clothes
Johnfb Crew Management and Officer Icons
Johnfb's damagecontrol screen
If I apply the sorting logic described above I get something like that:
Quote:
/// GWX
GWX - Enhanced Damage Effects
GWX - Main movie - 'Das Boot'
GWX - No Medals on Crew
/// GUI
MaGui F
TorpedoSolutionButton for MaGui F (NYGM-GWX-WAC)
/// SHIPS
TMTv2+ThomsensShips v4.4 for GWX3+Xtra ships
/// GRAPHICS
M.E.P v4.2
M.E.P v4.2 to v4.3
Optional - FSF for MEP v4.2
Optional - ShipVanishingHull for MEP v4.3
M.E.P v4.2 - VisualSensors for GWX3
Moon_light_mod
OLC's Modified Searchlight Beams for GWX3
Flags_enlighten
Officer 3D icons
Das Boot Clothes
Johnfb Crew Management and Officer Icons
Johnfb's damagecontrol screen
/// GAMEPLAY/OTHER
TheDarkWraith_Ship_Plane_Fire_Damage_v1_4_SH3
LifeBoats&Debris_v4
/// SOUND
Thomsen's Sound Pack V3.2cg
Is this second list "better" than the first one, in your opinion guys?

That is a matter of opinion and also the beauty of the much of the Silent Hunter Series. There are so many options allowing you to tailor the game to your particular taste

Some people here have 4-5 installs, all with various types of mods for each.

Thanks for your reply, kaleun

Well I suspected a response like that, sir. But I was wondering about the sorting logic form the "technical point of view", so to say (conflicting mods and/or ovveriding features).

In any case all I have to do is change the mods order at the next opportunity and stick with it for a mounth or so, like I've done for the current one
