Or perhaps where you're at? I'll be in New Orleans and there will be all kinds of people for certain.

I find it's way better to march in the parade then just watch on the sidelines and possibly end up in one of the paddy wagons if you over drink. There is only one stop at the halfway point to wet your whistle when you march.

The Mom's Ball is a wild all night costume party and gets pretty Bacchanalian.

Only place to be, I've never celebrated it, nor been there, but even I know that.

Still, we get the Notting Hill Carnival which is an event of its own, so enjoy.

Mardi Gras is also known in the UK as Shrove Tuesday. You get to carnival, we get to make crepes. Woohoo!

Might want to do some research it has nothing to do with homosexuality though people who are gay certainly celebrate Madi Gras.

You should check out the women in Brazilian Carnival (Carnival Brazil) then tell me if it is gay.

There's an episode of An Idiot Abroad where Karl Pilkington goes to Brazil during Mardi Gras.

Mardi Gras isn't my kind of thing...but some enjoy that life. I see no reason to infringe upon it.

He was referring to the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras which is held every February, but I'm assuming he wasn't aware the Marco Gras in the OP is a celebration of a different kind.

The Sydney event started as a protest March in the late 1970's when certain lifestyle choices were still illegal and police officers in Sydney were known for "poofter bashing". It's now a major tourist attraction with support from government and police.
