Definitely a convoy battle
Heavy allied ship losses suggest German surface units involved. I think this is Convoy JW55B Scharnhort and a destroyer group sortied from Norway to attack an allied convoy to Russia. Your are U-277, part of U-boatgroup EISENBART, vectored in to help.
