U-Boat Image ID Need Help!
I was given a framed print of this exact photo some time ago and ever since I started trying to identify it, I've been overwhelmed with different possibilities. I've heard that it was either a VIIA or VIIB but some even thought it was a World War One era type UB. If anyone can properly identify it, I would be very grateful! Thanks!

It could be a type UB III class? The net cutter looks very suspicious. Need to look at more photos.

I think you nailed it. Looks like a UBIII more than anything else printed in Rossler's book.

Believe it is the SM (Seiner Majestät) UB 148 built by AG Weser of Bremen and commissioned in 1918 and sunk after the German Armistice of 1918 by USS Sicard as a target.

Alright! Seems like it is a UB after all. I wouldn't have guessed. I really appreciate all of the quick help! Happy hunting!

She is most likely either UB-67 or UB-148

My apology; I had googled UB III's and saw the OP's photo prior to my above post; it is UB 148; I should have been more emphatic

Yes, great find! I believe that the boat is UB-148 not 67 due to the agreeing resources and the fact that UB-67 was a Mediterranean boat and didn't leave until 1922 when she was "broken up" at Swansea. Apparently, the original photo was stamped "UB-148 at sea, on her way to the United States of America, circa 1919, with Lt. Comdr. Harold T. Smith in command, after having been surrendered to the United States Navy, at Harwich, England." Those don't look like Mediterranean seas to me. Thanks again everyone, we came across a lot more information that I expected!

Hmm. The land you can see between the conning tower and net cutter was pointed out to me and could possibly be Heligoland. That wouldn't match up with what we thought. Any ideas?

With a picture of this quality it would be impossible to ascertain for sure.

Only one structure visible and it could be a lighthouse. Maybe a search for old lighthouses would yield a clue.
