The book 'the secret diary of a u-boat' by Wolfgang Hirshfeld covers U-234. He was on this boat when the surrender order came through.

It's easy to forget that the ball of flame going down, amid your cheering crew members, actually has men like you aboard. I found this very powerful viewing.
