I just use it to make sure all my groups show up, then go back and adjust.

Correct on adding your own mis. file. That way you can keep it separate from RSRD.

I dont add anything to the existing rsrd layers unless editing via notepad but blank layers i add stuff, does not seem to affect anything. The battle of truk file was blank so I added the airstrikes, worked just fine.

That's fine, done that a lot myself in the past. If you want to mod it, you'll need to make copies of those files. I just found it easier to keep up and keep things seperate with my own mis. files.

Well, I do both. I prefer to keep certain traffic seperate so I create files and mod them. However, I've done a lot of hand editing to RSRD, changed most the crew ratings, added or changed ships to existing groups, so most the files with RSRD have been changed. No need to mod that since it consist of most of RSRD files, so I run my version of RSRD tweaked. That's the problem with modding RSRD, if you change so many of his files, you might as well use his mod, but obviously couldn't release it.
