Perhaps someone can answer the question? It's holding up my release of a mod.
So having some obsessive tweaking disorder with the RSRD campaign, I have added traffic and specific ships, convoys etc at specific dates to enhance gameplay, originally for my own use but want to share it with the subsim community. For example, USS Wahoo's convoy of 4 ships(unescorted) she sunk off Wewak in January 1943, I added it where it is a correct place and time, where if player so chooses can find this convoy just as the Wahoo did, unescorted convoy sounds easy eh? Well with full realism on, its a challenge but fun.The DD in Wewak is there, so can recon the harbor and try a down the throat shot as wahoo did if want to.I've added various things like this in different years but have ran into some aggravation.
since cant add this to the convoy layers without screwing them up, I used the blank "japsubhunter" layers, adding patrols in key places that are missing such as la perouse strait etc as well as convoys. Now, they show up in other layers when appropriate but for some reason that which I added to 44bJapSubhunter layers has now shown up. Now way I could have missed them, they simply did not spawn despite being correctly set up. So thinking may the layers, I went to the campaign file and adjusted the date to start 10 01 44 until 12 31 45 and will see if that works as it was set differently than I thought it was but just wondering if anyone knows beforehand if this is the issue if not, what then? Quite aggravating as I have some great timing set up and once perfect, plan to release this as a mod to enhance RSRD since lurker is MIA now days. Some things I have completed are : Take Ichi Convoy in all phases in April 1944-May 1944 Tanker convoys running through convoy college which was a vital shipping lane from singapore to japan for most of war.which are mostly missing in RSRD. presence of japanese submarines in various area including in Bashi Channel so player may try to sink 3 in a few days as USS Batfish did in 1945. Wolfpack tactics(Using AI fleetboats to attack certain convoys, while currently they do not attack, they can draw enemy attention as would in RL, kind of cool , still perfecting it) Lifeguard missions at Truk in April and Feb 1944, off coast of japan in 45.Kamikaze raids on iwo jima and okinawa invasion forces(found many will crash into ships after expended ordnance if no return waypoints are set) Tweaking of Battle of Leyte Gulf Large convoys attacked by USS Tang and Barb in 1944 to be in historically correct position on correct date and time. Added historically accurate(as much as possible) traffic and patrols to vacant areas such as Gulf of Siam, Tonkin, Lombok Strait, Tshushima Straits, La Perouse, Sea of Japan. Player has the chance to engage the five destroyers USS Harder did in 1944 on her 5th patrol where she sank 5. Correct time and dates. The killer(s) of harder are at Dasol Bay in August 1944. The convoy with POW ships sunk in September 1944 in South China Sea is recreated, a hoard of survivors in the water appears in the are at appropriate time and date so can be rescue(anyone know how to remove the pink smoke from the survivors for this purpose?) Like the Barb and other subs, you will be notified of their presence and can rescue them. Added convoy with tankers and the Unyo that barb sank on September 17 1944, correct time and place and composition as much as possible. There are other things. This is many months work, working when I had a chance and figuring things out.Early and mid war stuff shows up but late war stuff in the 44B layer is not cooperating .Any ideas? Ill see if my date change works. Thanks in adance |
Still out of town and can hardly type on my laptop. The way I do it is to make new mis. folders. Make sure you add it to the campaign cfg or it won't get loaded. You can copy an existing mis file, change the name. Any direct changes to RSRD, I do through notepad.
Not being able to look now, but if you want to see if your traffic is showing up, set the minutes to positive in "contact report or maybe contact auto report" set probability to 100%. This will basically give you a red block showing the movements in real time. |

Yes, I use the contact auto report thing but dont like to have it too much as it fills map up with contact reports, but its useful for certain convoys. If the adjusting the dates thing does not work, i may create my own file.Thats all you have to do, is create.mis folder and add the proper dates into the campaign cfg? Like I said, I have a lot of work done I thing everyone would enjoy, just trying perfect it all, well close as possible.I was quite annoyed when I spent an hour or so getting the Barb's convoys from Sept 44 and Nov 44 just right, then they didnt show up. Sim drives me crazy at times but its a blast when it does work out. |
I just use it to make sure all my groups show up, then go back and adjust.
Correct on adding your own mis. file. That way you can keep it separate from RSRD. |

ive made some changes, going to check it out |
That's fine, done that a lot myself in the past. If you want to mod it, you'll need to make copies of those files. I just found it easier to keep up and keep things seperate with my own mis. files.

Well, I do both. I prefer to keep certain traffic seperate so I create files and mod them. However, I've done a lot of hand editing to RSRD, changed most the crew ratings, added or changed ships to existing groups, so most the files with RSRD have been changed. No need to mod that since it consist of most of RSRD files, so I run my version of RSRD tweaked. That's the problem with modding RSRD, if you change so many of his files, you might as well use his mod, but obviously couldn't release it.
