I think the issue was caused by a poorly seated magazine because the first round fired just fine when your first shot fires and your second does not and you have a magazine fed weapon in your hands you most likely did not seat the magazine properly in the well.

I only have personal knowledge of the SA-80 group of weapons, but to me firing one or two more rounds indicates a blockage in the gas system.
