Actually, his tenure has seen him actively working hard to clean up the church and its mess. While regional church leaders were trying to hush things up, he was working to do things like remove the statute of limitations for such crimes, including in canon law that such things against anyone under 18 would be a crime for a priest, etc. He has worked hard to see that bad priests can get tossed easier.

I am not catholic - and I have great issues with the theology. So the guy looks like palpatine. He has worked for good - and I respect him for that.

Regional church leaders????
Thats his old job isn't it, a regional church leader in Germany during the time when regional church leaders in Germany were hushing up their long running kiddie fiddling habits.

But its OK he had a redeeming job in the interim between being top dog and regional husher upper, it involved going to different countries to work on hushing up the local child abuse scandals with the local regional leaders.

Do you expect anything else?
Something like a decent pope?
Like a Decent religious President?
come on...

Nope.
No Chance. Not even for the "decent" ones for they lead and represent a pretty sick system IM(NS)HO.

Freaks.

Yes, actually I would expect something else. There are lots of bad lawyers. There are lots of lawyers that act in ways that are completely unscrupulous. However, only a fool would assume that the next lawyer that will walk into the room will be unscrupulous based on what was previously stated. After all, I have no idea who that lawyer is and what he has done.

So, yes, wait until you see who it is, then mock as you see fit. Otherwise, what is to seperate you from the chronic polemic. Besides, you wouldn't want us thinking that you were also that sort of idealogue, would you?

And for the record, many of America's best presidents were also religious. The two are not mutually exclusive. Come on indeed.

So people can only be good leaders if they share your opinions?

I really can't see Richard Dawkins being a good Prime Minister.

Many of the founding fathers ascribed to either conventional Christianity or the Deist philosophy, or a combination of both, as in both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

John Quincy Adams was a Unitarian and vice president of the American Bible Society.

Abraham Lincoln attended the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Teddy Roosevelt was an outspoken member of the Dutch Reformed Church.

Woodrow Wilson was the son of a Presbyterian minister and served as president of the Presbyterian-owned Princeton University.

Dwight David Eisenhower was the only president to undergo full baptism and conversion (the Presbyterian Church, again) in US history. He also pushed for the addition of the words 'Under God' in the US Pledge of Allegiance.

John F. Kennedy was a practicing Roman Catholic.
