Default Jailed SAS Sniper Freed

Justice is done

Quote:
Jailed SAS sniper Danny Nightingale has walked free from court after his sentence was suspended following a successful appeal.
Sergeant Nightingale was given 18 months military detention earlier this month after he admitted illegally possessing a Glock 9mm pistol and more than 300 rounds of ammunition.
Now judges at the Court Martial Appeal Court in London said his sentence would be cut to 12 months and suspended. They said he could be released immediately.

There was a bit in his initial sentencing about not chucking him out because the army could use him. Whether he'd want to stay is another thing.

I had a mate bring back an AK-47 from Sierra Leone, all official though the armourers who made it unfireable and mounted it, and authority from his local force. Not a problem, maybe he should've tried that route first.

The problem was everything was 'workable' but his defence was 'he didn't realise his mates had sent the parts'.......handguns are illegal in the UK and imho he is a lucky man.

Why did he have 300 rounds of 9x19mm though that part seems questionable to me.I don't know he is very lucky I think simply being SAS saved him a regular soldier would have been screwed.

David Sterling would be proud of a trooper that has good memory and double checks things of importance.

Everyone knows his name now that alone means good by SAS. In fact he would be wise to change his name you don't want a revenge seeker knocking on your door surely he has killed
some enemy and now they have a face and name snipers are truly hated by their foes.

I would imagine that the SAS Counter Revolutionary members that operated in Northern Ireland in the old day enjoy anonymity a great deal.

I read an interview once of a SAS man that did that he talked about getting through a road block by shooting the IRA men manning they where searching every car so the only option was deadly force each SAS member shot a guard and they drove on and that was just the start. In that case they are dressed as civilians so capture means certain death.

In the UK if I had been a part of any elite pain in the side to AQ or the Taliban unit I would not want to be known because they can get to you in England maybe even the US if they really wanted to.

First I have to confess ignorance of British Law.

If the sentence was reduced to 12 months and then suspended, Doesn't he still have a felony record?

In the US a suspended sentence still means guilty of the original crime. It just means that the person won't serve their sentence in jail/prison.

Or is it different on the other side of the pond?

Same on this side of the pond as it is on your side
