I play with fatigue off as well. One of the first things I learned to do prior to using SH3Commander was how to change the file dealing with fatigue and setting so my crew wouldn't fatigue. SH3Commander is a godsend in this respect. I just set my crew where I want them for "battle stations" and forget about them until I need to move people around for damage/wounds/death/destruction.

I use GWX but not Commander. I simply turned off fatigue by editing one file as follows:
C:/SilentHunterIII/Data/Cfg/Basic.cfg scroll down to [FATIGUE_COEF] Replace all positive values with zero. Leave all negative values (found only in comp 6 and comp 7) untouched. This removes fatigue from the game so you don't have to spend a lot of time on crew management. Example: ;comp5 RegularFactor50=0.01 <= change to 0.00 RegularFactor51=0.01 <= change to 0.00 SpecificFactor50=0.03 <= change to 0.00 SpecificFactor51=0.04 <= change to 0.00 BadWeather5=0.02 <= change to 0.00 ;comp6 SpecificFactor60=-0.1 <= do not change SpecificFactor61=-0.1 <= do not change

Too bad. You're missing out on the best part of the game.

I was in the navy. Sea life is easy, if viewed from the right angle. SH3 crew management has nothing to do with sea life.

High time compression is probably the reason why your crew don't get a moment to rest. I can't remember exactly what is the threshold for it, but above some level the fatigue updates are skipped. (guessing "CharacterAnim" in (My) Documents/SH3/Data/cfg/main.cfg) This has it's pros and cons. Pro in that your crew won't get fatigued when you are taking long trip across the ocean. But con, in the sence that once they are fatigued and the combat stress can be relieved, you time compress over the dull moments. But they don't recover as you expect them to do.
But you are better off installing SH3 Commander, it let's you tweak these timecompression settings without screwing the rest of the file up. |

Thanks, Pisces. It's been so long I had forgotten about the 'reverse' problem with stock TC and Fatigue - the fact that the good ones don't get tired but the tired ones don't recover either. I used to come out of TC every eight hours and switch them all around, and then a storm would it and it would be two hours. It drove me crazy, since it's stormy most of the time.

Stock fatigue is not that hard to deal with. Yes, above +/-128TC the fatigue system is bypassed, but it only takes a minute or so in TC32 to bring everyone up to full strength.
Another tip is don't run every area at full efficiency if you don't have to. There's no point having the torp room room fully manned or four guys and a watch officer on the bridge if you're in the middle of a run across "empty" water. Put one sailor on the bridge and let the others rest. Don't wait for the crew to hit "!" before getting them rest and if they do hit that don't wait till they're fully rested before putting them back on duty otherwise the person they're replacing will likely be at "!" and you'll end up endlessly swapping. This is especially true for Type II officers as you just don't have enough to do everything so run with one only in command as much as possible. Take advantage of the ability to dive as well to give as many men as possible the "night off". |

I loved life at sea. It was the military part that I hated.
