Tips on crew management?
I'm a SH4 veteran, trying my hand at the german boats with GWX, so I'm not too familiar with the crew management system in SH3. I give my crew shifts and rests, but somehow about 1/2 way through my patrol all my crew gets a case of exhaustion and no amount of cycling seems to help. :shifty:
What's your tactic for keeping your crew from falling asleep on you? |
Turn off fatigue. It's unrealistic.
Que Steve's rant on how it's not done that way: |
Yes. Use SH3 Commander and turn it OFF.
Fatigue is just screwed up in that game. |

On my U-boat i use the option of 8 hours GWX. At the beginning its a little hard to manage but later the crew have more experience dont need too much attention...
Turn fatigue off!? Not in my Uboot...this is a war vessel not a hospital ship or a cruise liner... :arrgh!: |

I play with fatigue off as well. One of the first things I learned to do prior to using SH3Commander was how to change the file dealing with fatigue and setting so my crew wouldn't fatigue. SH3Commander is a godsend in this respect. I just set my crew where I want them for "battle stations" and forget about them until I need to move people around for damage/wounds/death/destruction. |
I use GWX but not Commander. I simply turned off fatigue by editing one file as follows:
C:/SilentHunterIII/Data/Cfg/Basic.cfg scroll down to [FATIGUE_COEF] Replace all positive values with zero. Leave all negative values (found only in comp 6 and comp 7) untouched. This removes fatigue from the game so you don't have to spend a lot of time on crew management. Example: ;comp5 RegularFactor50=0.01 <= change to 0.00 RegularFactor51=0.01 <= change to 0.00 SpecificFactor50=0.03 <= change to 0.00 SpecificFactor51=0.04 <= change to 0.00 BadWeather5=0.02 <= change to 0.00 ;comp6 SpecificFactor60=-0.1 <= do not change SpecificFactor61=-0.1 <= do not change |

High time compression is probably the reason why your crew don't get a moment to rest. I can't remember exactly what is the threshold for it, but above some level the fatigue updates are skipped. (guessing "CharacterAnim" in (My) Documents/SH3/Data/cfg/main.cfg) This has it's pros and cons. Pro in that your crew won't get fatigued when you are taking long trip across the ocean. But con, in the sence that once they are fatigued and the combat stress can be relieved, you time compress over the dull moments. But they don't recover as you expect them to do.
But you are better off installing SH3 Commander, it let's you tweak these timecompression settings without screwing the rest of the file up. |
