I've had the same experience in SH4. It was just as you describe.

I have no idea if it is realistic or not. It did strike me as odd though. I can't recall ever having read anything about this sort of thing.

Computer/Game maybe thinks you're still on the surface/on the surface and on the bridge. Engine sound bugs me at times because the volume doesn't always lower like it should when I go from the bridge to the Command room. May even be the cause of my wave sound issue.

I try to avoid issuing diving/crash diving commands while "standing" on the bridge or in external cam for this reason. I've also found pausing and unpausing sometimes helps...at least I have with the volume level problem.
