Cheers. Nice and simple, then.

I'm not so bothered by the new forces, to be honest, but it looks like there is at least one new map. Hope it's a big one.

If I remember correctly, the new maps are to have rivers, which mean that they will probably have bridges, something that was missing from the earlier maps and which will add a new strategic aspect to the game. For example, if a bridge is destroyed, vehicles cannot cross, unless they are amphibious.

I've got the game up and running again and downloaded some user made maps: The Fallujah one, the Clafghan one and another which is supposed to be coastal Takistan, I think. All three are very nice. The Fallujah one is especially nice - the scale of the city is unbelievable. It's like GTA or something! I'd love to use the in-game modules to populate it with civilians and traffic, but I think I'd need to have a computer that uses synthetic neural nets to provide enough processing power.

I have the Fallujah map too, and it is amazing! From what I can gather, it's a 1/1 scale representation of the actual city of Fallujah, in Iraq. The street layouts are accurate, based on satellite maps. Perfect for recreating the Second Battle of Fallujah. I tell you, MOUT ops in this game is terrifying. That's what I love about this game, you can have anything you want in it. Science fiction? Aliens? Medieval? It's there!

I feel your pain. The game is very CPU-heavy. I've got a GTX 680, but 6GB of DDR2 RAM and an ancient Intel Core2Duo LGA 775 CPU, so the game runs poorly. Luckily, I'm going to upgrade to a Intel Core i7 2700K LGA 1155 with 8GB of DDR3 RAM by year's end, so I should be able to play the game in it's full glory. Need I mention, the game looks absolutely stunning on full graphics settings, but terrible on mid-to-low.

Why would anyone not be playing DayZ?

It's still buggy as hell but still draws you in, proper release will be great.

TBH I'm not a big fan of running around collecting stuff and avoiding z's and other players. Its OK if you are in a group and can support one another, but I prefer co-op to deathmatch stuff anyway.

Exactly. If I wanted a Zombie game I'd go out and buy one. I bought the "premier infantry tactical shooter" because I figured when I played online I'd find players with an actual mind for tactics and the like. This has not been the case.

Day Z is fun for a while, but ACE mod is 10x better, and combined with ACRE the game is pretty much a perfect combat sim

BIS snuck out patch 1.62 a few weeks ago and I missed the whole thing!
http://www.arma2.com/index.php?optio...atch-1&lang=en
VERSION 1.62 HIGHLIGHTS
-----------------------
* Multiplayer optimizations, security and server improvements
* Overall stability was improved with numerous tweaks and fixes
* Added new video options (Post-Process Anti-Aliasing, Alpha To Coverage)
* Additional AI improvements and numerous bug fixes

I always read the word optimizations as lag.

With all the optimizations, the game should run on NES by now.
