Don't follow boxing anymore. Last good boxer I remember right off the top, is fellow Detroiter, Tommy Hearns.

So who is the guy in the picture?

Yeah they did! Duran, Hearns, and I can't think of his name, but another fellow I think from South America. All good in the fight ring, and very good at their craft.

Used to like Golden Gloves too. 3 rounds and it's done. Those guys came outta the gates on fire!

Maybe Boza....

I boxed most of my teens through my 20's, several boxers visited us from time to time at the city club. I actually did a round with Duran, course he played, geesh could he hit hard.

Yeah, they said the same thing about Hearns. I'll never forget the fight he had with Sugar Ray, and the first connect he had, wasn't even his most powerful, and it sent Ray half way round the ring with a very suprized look on his face!

I think he broke his hand in the fight, and couldn't do what he was potentially capable of, and lost it in the end. But Hearns wasn't a duration fight, as most of his fights were over in the first 3 rounds.

That must have been cool to mix it up with Duran! Not every day you get that opportunity! Did he offer any advice or tips?

Hmmmmm, now you guys have me wondering how many of the ol' time boxers I can remember. I haven't been a sports fan (of any kind) in the last 10 years or so, but in the 70s & 80s, I even went to see professional tennis matches every year at Flushing Meadows, NY (the U.S. Open).

Now, let's see how many boxers I can remember:

Roberto "Stone Hands" Duran
Tommy "The Hit Man" Hearns
"Sugar" Ray Leonard
Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini
Sean O'Grady
Barry McGuigan
"Rockin" Robin Blake
Christy Elliott
Alexis Arguello
Hector Camacho
"Marvelous" Marvin Hagler
Julio Cesar Chavez
Tony "The Tiger" Baltazar
Wilfred Benitez
Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker
Marlon Starling
Edwin Rosario
Pinklon Thomas

Anyway, these are the ones I remember the most. It took me quite some time to recall/remember these names. I liked Heavyweights, but the real action was in the lighter weight categories.

Not really, he came by for a quick visit, some photo's. I think he did about 6 rounds with different people, in and out. What was funny we saved our best for last, small guy, golden glove champ....he actually gave Duran a fit for the one round, you could tell Duran got serious, moreso when he got clocked a few times...Long time ago, Coach Al Lowe is dead now, but least they named it after him.

Looks like one of the Klitschko brothers, not Neal :)
