SPOLIERY

I saw it today as well (got released today in the US) It was fairly good though I agree with the others it felt like two different movies at different points. It was definitely thought provoking for sure and the entire suggestion about the engineers was interesting.I thought that they left too many questions unanswered though. They really did not answer any questions. Also from what I have read from an art book about Alien by H.R. Giger and some of what Scott has said the "mound" thing and the engineer "facility" in earlier concepts of Alien they had some similar ideas so it seems at least to me as if Prometheus was not so much of a prequel as a different view of a similar concept.

I would say 7/10 fairly good but not perfect.

I wish they would have shown more how certain things progress though some things got cut before they came to fruition. It seemed very open to a sequel.

It also brings up many questions about the ship in Alien. How long had it been there and it had obviously eggs inside of it not the other kind of cargo seen in Prometheus.Which makes me think that it is not as old and must have left the source at a later date after the events in Prometheus.

I hated it. Spoony summed it all up in his review.

I think I've avoided spoilers, but let the reader beware.

Only one or two characters are likable.

Alien had realistic characters having realistic dialogue and acting realistically. Prometheus has unbelievable characters saying and doing unbelievable things.

A scientist is afraid to investigate a hugely important find in his field, but then will throw procedures to the wind and will act extremely unprofessionally 20 minutes later.

A scientist says "she just chooses to believe" when asked about the justification for a billion kilometer journey.

After making a momentous discovery and confirming his theory, the lead scientist still mopes around.

Scientists fail to take basic precautions, or treat their finds with any care.

The captain couldn't care less about the well being of some of the scientists, and is surprised at how events unfold, even though he had access to real-time information from them. He acts nonchalantly about potential threats.

Suit recorders stop recording or are never checked, only for the convenience of the plot.

Characters know / exposit information they had no access to - yet the audience is left without answers for major questions.

A character can have major surgery and be running around seconds later without bleeding to death.

The space jockeys/Engineers are completely and utterly ruined. What we get in Prometheus does not dignify the mystery and foreignness of what we saw in Alien.

They act simplistically and boringly.

The film does not feel like it takes place in the same universe as Alien. The designs and technology are far more advanced than in films taking place in the future. While an allowance for advances in special effects can be made, it cannot be made for design choices (e.g. the space suits).

A movie that requires its characters to act stupidly in order to advance the plot is not a good movie.

What's the beef on the link? We all know elements are stolen from other films and TV shows which has been going for many many years now so that argument is bull. As for your point on the surgery yes I felt this looked wrong as this person was stapled back up, clearly a poor over sight.

Just been reading some posts on another forum and a general feeling is coming forward, first part of the film is good. Second part a let down with the re-writing and Ridley Scott taking his eye off the ball.

It had some mistakes writing wise but every film or story has "why did they not simply do that in stead" points if not every story/film would be short and boring.

I highly disagree with the feeling that the Engineers/Space Jockey is ruined but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Seems to me that people either liked the film with its flaws or just your(Angus) short review sounds a lot like an overly picky review I read over on IMDB.Also Spoony seems to have a rather poor taste in films as well look at his review list.

^ Spoony reviews mainly bad movies and games. IMHO, he is a good reviewer,
I tend to agree with most of his stuff.

And I agree that there were a lot of mistakes and silly stuff in Prometheus,
but what is strange about the film is that even with it's flaws, the big picture
remains unchanged. I can't recall a single point where the story would have
gone the other way if every plot issue would have been ironed out.

!!!SPOILERS!!!

IIRC, the first sign of a threat was the deaths of the 2 scientists and Holloway mutating.
After that everything moved fast towards the ending scene, Shaw does her
surgery and meanwhile Weyland has been awakened and they are preparing
to head off to wake up the Engineer (which no one but David knew about).

!!!SPOILERS!!!

My mate just gave his review and he said...Ridley were you out on the #!$$£@ when this story was written? Wooden acting with plot holes so big this film fell in and lost it.

Yeah, I think I'd like to see it again as well. I'll think I'll be getting the Blu-ray when it comes out.

I don't think the second half is that bad but I agree that the first part is better. I felt he jumped into the second half and attempted to answer questions that the first half had thrown up. I would have much preferred he kept that 'George Lucas' approach in check. There was no need to try to explain everything in the space of the one movie if a sequel is going to be forthcoming.

I was thinking about a preview of the film i read about 18 months ago in Empire and, I have to say, it sounded like it was going to be a much, much darker film at one point. It's a shame they never stuck to that.

I think if it was much darker it could very well come out as a Cert.18

OK folks a question of scale..

When you see the size of the engineer to the space jockey clearly the jockey is far bigger, what do you you think?

Saw it, liked it for the grand spectacle and intense action in places.

^ Don't think there's a clear answer to it, but how I see it is that David was following
Weyland's orders to "Try harder!!". Holloway tells David that he'd do
"anything and everything" to get answers, so David took that as a permission
from Holloway that he'd be willing to be a test subject.

Or something.

Prometheus 2 has now been retitled as "Alien:Paradise Lost" and will be released in 2017. According to Ridley Scott, Alien 5 will also be released in 2017 after Promet-.. Alien:Paradise Lost.

Two Alien films in one year? Yes, please!
