Ridely Scott quits on new Alien project (2011)

I just read it in German news. The project is cancelled. But from the years of plannign so far, another film will emerge, so far called "Prometheus".

The message weas brief and just a few lines. If you have more info, post it.

I personally did not wait for another Alien movie anyway. I want him to finally come to terms with The Forever War. He doesn't get younger.

Will Prometheus be bound? That would be pretty cool. :O:

In a way, I think the "alien" series has run its course. Perhaps he can bring his skill into another series?

While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.

i think an Alien prequel would be great given the right story and directing... problem is with such a film it is very easy to produce a turd.

Ridely Scott walking away from it speaks volumes.

unfortunate.

Just email a friend to break the bad news, his answer was.....

Hmmm, well you get the picture.

Well it would have been nice to see the back story but this is now not the case.

I too would of like to see a Alien prequel, but with Scott now leaving, there's no point someone else picking it up.

After running out of numbers with the sequels, it is only logical Hollywood will then produce prequels, maybe starting with Rocky -17 ? :O:

But really apart from sequels Hollywood seems to run out of ideas. They should maybe quit concocted history loe U-571 or Pearl Harbour and make realistic historical films, like the flight of the Vimy from England to Australia, and such.
I love Science Fiction from books to films, but there are very few good SF books lately, and gaaawwwd SF is all about imagination and fiction. Why would they do the umpteenth sequel of Alien ?! They really seem to suffer from a lack of imagination and ideas :dead:

There is so much real good SF to make films from, from "The Forever War" to "Ringworld" to the "Gateway" trilogy ...

Greetings,
Catfish

Just recently, director Ridley Scott announced that the Alien prequel he was set to direct and penned by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, had taken a life of its own and will now be conceived as an original project named Prometheus.

However, according to Sky Movies, Prometheus will still have a storyline that ties in directly with the Alien franchise, and this will include the popular H.R. Giger designed creatures. Giger has been previously linked to being involved in the prequel so the possibility of him being involved in this new project is strong.

Sources say that "despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar H.R. Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones apparently. They've built the 'space jockey' cockpit at Pinewood as seen in the original Alien film, so it definitely takes place in the same world as Alien "

Insiders also confirm that the plot centres around a space crew and the discovery of alien DNA on an archeological expedition, which will eventually lead them to an alien world.

Rumours also state that the film is said to involve "biochemical technology" and the spacecraft may be piloted by a giant CGI head.

The release date for Prometheus is June 8, 2012. Are you happy with Scott´s return to the science fiction genre?
If true, I approve.

Tho, frankly, I don't see why not just make an Alien prequel, big aliens = born from space jockeys (the chestburster hole is huge on the SJ in ALIEN), same planet, Giger aliens. I mean, all the ingredients are there, so why not?

Speaking of Scott, would love to see him finally make a movie about 'Gunpowder Plot' he has been planning for 30+ years. :yep:

Gods, why do you torment us so?

They should have quit after ALIENS. Alien3 looked up to dog turds, and I needn't bother going into the travesties of movies that followed.

I would have trusted Scott or Cameron to do a prequel justice - moreso Scott, but Cameron mighta done OK - it's not like he hasn't worked with Sigourney Weaver before.

Ah, well.

Hehe... I was... disappointed with A3. After the well-crafted story of the first and second movie, 3 seemed too... pat.
