I see your point here. It really should be a last resort; not just "Gee, it would be swell if I could get more fuel for my patrol...".

Doesn't the concept of meeting at a specified location defeat the purpose of a rescue ship? I see how you mean to stop cheaters, but the precautions kind've undermine the original intent.

For example, the other day I was launching an attack on a Task Force led by a Fuso Class battleship and managed to sink it. In the process, a Subchaser snuck up on me and nailed my engine room with a depth charge as I was sneaking away. Luckily, it was fairly shallow and I was able to rest on the bottom as my crew drained the submerged engine room and repaired the pumps. The convoy eventually left, however I was dead in the water without a Propeller shaft or a rudder. Such a situation could easily be re-enacted by a well placed hit to the engine room or fuel tanks, leaving the player stranded and unable to meet up with the requested sub.

In my frame of thought, if you truly need a rescue ship, odds are you aren't able to make a rendezvous point in time, if at all. I understand your desire to keep players from abusing the mod, however the idea of a court-martial punishment and a given re-supply point kind've defeat the purpose. Quite honestly, if the player can reach the spot in between Midway and Japan, wouldn't they be able to reach Midway anyway? Wouldn't it be more realistic and effective to have the rescue ship/sub come to you and only suffer a Court Martial penalty if you leave the area?

The game will not allow you to send a 'rescue ship' to you, you are not in the same place all the time. His idea is basically for someone that needs additional fuel to make it back to base, either because of not keeping track or a 'leak'.

Thank you. Well said. I wish there were a way to make the rescue sub come to the player's exact location, but it's just not possible. This compromise is the next best thing. What us modders would like to do and can do are two different things.

By the way, Rescue Sub v1.0 is out. Please see here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=193872
