The Russian navy has a nasty history with fire.

Good thing she was unarmed and the fire never spread to the interior.

http://news.yahoo.com/

Quote:
The damage from the fire could be so massive that the submarine would need to be scrapped, the Interfax news agency reported Friday. But Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, who is in charge of the nation's military industries, said after the meeting that the submarine will rejoin the navy after repairs
Quote:
An unspecified number of crew remained inside the submarine during the fire, Defense Ministry spokesman Col. Igor Konashenkov said in a statement
Quote:
Konashenkov's statement left it unclear whether the crew were trapped there or ordered to stay inside.

Is the death count still zero with about 10 people injured?

Glad they were able to get it under control.

Delta IV. That brings back memories.

Wow.. the latest pictures tell the story.

The front Subsim page has the artcicle. Here is the link: http://www.barentsobserver.com/subma...663-58932.html

The blogger who posted the pictures said it was in the torpedo room. I have to disagree with him. It looks like there was a large hole cut in the forward outer hull into the wet space were the sonar arrray is housed.

Now the news statement about needed a new hydrophone array makes sense.

It also makes sense that they could partially submerge the hull. If the forward compartment was open and they flooded it, that boat would be razar blade fodder now. Talk about flooding...

Wouldn't a fire of this nature, inside the hull make it neccessary to scrap it? I mean because of the hull alloy being compromised?
