Britons 'less willing to pay for taxes to help others'

Penny Young, chief executive of the National Centre for Social Research, said: "In a time of economic austerity and social unrest, the big question coming out of this year's report is whether we really are in it together, or just in it for ourselves?

"An emerging sense of self-reliance may take the government some way toward its vision of a more responsible society, but an emphasis on individualism, not Big Society collectivism, may present as much of a challenge as it does an opportunity."

Creation of a welfare state. It becomes status quo.

There are people, many of them, that really do need the help, but then there are the few who really do know how to milk the system for every single penny - and these are obviously the ones highlighted by media so these are the ones in peoples forethoughts when asked about welfare assistance.

My wife (so not the mainstream media) knows of girls getting pregnant at age 15-16 to try and get a council house and benefits, what chance does a middle-aged guy have who's just divorced, made redundant and has house reposessed (and paid taxes all his life) against a fragile (ha!) female with a newborn baby who has contributed nothing but an extra drain on society?

These same girls also smoke with the specific aim of keeping the baby's weight down to reduce the pain during labour.

I agree there are those that need the assistance. It is the milkers that gets people upset and rightly so. The media should focus on them.

It is on the water. That jacks up the price. It could be a shanty on a million dollar piece of property.

May the issue have something to do with massive flood of foreigners as well but is avoided?
Lots of people living better life on welfare that they used to have in places of origin.
