And how in DA Origins the elfs were no longer that great mystic nation of old as they usually are in RPGs, but just a bunch of downers.

That didn't stop them from angsting over it. They do it a lot in Witcher series too, being in somewhat similar situation.

A thing I could add: the obligatory spider nest. At some point of the game you will fight giant spiders and finally slay the huge spider queen. Not crickets, not bumblebees, not beetles, but spiders. Will someone please finally inform the developers that they are again mixing the spiders with ants? (Which, incidentally, are also a rare enemy, though there may be a semi-humanoid race resembling ants.)

15. The game's protagonist is actually a superhero who could kill ten Grizzly bears with a butter knife, but suffers from amnesia and therefore doesn't remember which part of the blade he is supposed to hold in order to avoid serious injuries to his hands. Case in point: Knights of the Old Republic 1, The Witcher 1.
And it's variation. 15(b) the PC will be an orphan brought up by a wise old man and will have no inkling of his amazing, heroic and quite possibly divine heritage until he first comes across the big bad guy's minions, and even then it will take endless touchy feely discussions with a wood elf lady before he realises his 'destiny'. Case in point: All D&D Forgotten Realms CPRGs ever.

Which is kind of odd when you consider that D&D is about a bunch of average joe heroes finding +2 swords of Orc bashing so they can go adventuring to 'Kill things and take their stuff'.

Fallout wins. No Spiders in Fallout but lots of huge ants.

I can take every one of the OPs points and apply them to the Final Fantasy series in one way or another.

You get Orson.

I haven't played the series that much (only completed 6 and 7 a few times and got pretty far in 8 before losing the saves and eventually the discs too), but from what I've heard, they could have a similar list on their own too.

Fallout is great. Yes, even Fallout 3 (I suppose I can say it in this forum without being stoned to death). But I think it was actually better that Fallout 3 came so long after Fallout 2 and was made by different people. I don't know if the "Fetch a super important lost thingywingy and return with it just to hear that there is a new trouble brewing" plot could have worked for the third time.

Another cliche that doesn't apply to Fallout: The ridiculous use of traps. Every house owner in the world seem to have read the book "Traps and You: how to make the life of your family much more exciting." I mean it must be terribly inconvenient to live in a house where you have to disarm 10 traps just to take a leak.

And how wolves living in a cave can come up with elaborate trap systems and locked doors is totally beyond me.

Do people not like Fallout 3? Wow, it's one of my favourites and I've been playing crpgs since they were text only back at the start of the eighties - before I ever even played a real pen and paper RPG in fact.

Lol, yeah. The Neverwinter Nights games were awful for that.

Fallout 3 is great.
3 dog is the best video game fake DJ ever.

And your in game dad is voiced by Liam Neeson. Anything he is in is awesome.

I know people who didn't like Fallout 3 when it was first announced, years before it was released. They basically bought it just to play it for a few minutes and say: "see, what did I tell you?!"

From what I've seen, most people actually seem to like Fallout 3. It's just that the minority is again the loudest.

After playing trough the game and all the expansions, I took great pleasure in ending the game by shooting him in face.

I don't want to derail this thread but I find Fallout 3 mediocre at best. A lot of the quests are outright ridiculous and half bottomed. Like they didn't take much time to develop them and think them through. Add to that that a lot of everyday things don't make sense, lots of clipping errors (floating stuff or that you can see through the ground) and totally outdated textures for many things (compare the default 10mm pistol with the work of art that a lot of the TES IV weapons were...it's a huge step back). I never got rid of the feeling that Fall Out 3 was just the unloved step child of the Oblivion designers who just wanted to use the engine for one more title.
