Well done that man. Sounds like he'll be a skipper by 25 if he keeps this up.

Well done to James

But most importantly, will we get 'mates rates'?

Funny you say that Grant...I said similar last night when he rang home (he was just leaving Sardinia and heading for Barcelona).

His response was something along the lines of "Will be 23 next January plus six months study, so if successful will be approaching 24 years of age, then a further 2/3 years sea time (not sure how long exactly) could be 27/28 if all goes well"

I may yet get that house in Oz yet

Very nice indeed Jim, has he got any particular line of shipping he wants to captain? I can only presume given his current line that he's aiming for passenger rather than freight?

That is great Jim! I'm glad he is obtaining his goals and looks to be enjoying it along the way! That is important and keep'em smiling! Tell him congradulations!

Well, when he was going through his cadetship his sponsor company was Zodiac Maritime http://www.zodiac-maritime.com/publi...858E599A.node1

He completed two trips post qualification but wasn't impressed with the nationality of the crews they used or the meals so he applied to an agency in Dover who recruited for Holland America Line (based in Seattle) http://www.hollandamerica.com/main/Main.action and the rest is history as they say.

His medium to long term goal is to get his Masters then branch out into practicing or teaching (not sure which) Maritime Law.

Evening dress whilst at the dinner table and mingling with the gentry and their ladies afterwards.

I call it 'ego building'
