![]() I think your friend is something he thinks that he is not if he gets passed over by such prestigious schools they are passing him over for good reason other candidates are out shining him clearly.Sounds to me like he is trying to fight outside his weight class.if your pal said "GD" General so and so then I'd say they made a wise choice not select him. I guess your friend never heard of back up plans he should have applied to at least 10 or 15 schools 90% of people do not get accepted to their choice school or pick a school they had not planned on after touring it.Your pal could attend any number of ROTC programs and after 4 years be the same rank as the guy that went to Colorado. I guess he is also unaware that one must also receive a nomination from one of four people The President of the United States(hang out with Mr.Obama) the Vice President(happen to know Joe?) or your congress House of Representative member or your US Senator. You will of course have already have met the admission requirements of said Academy.Oh and the Director of admissions at the Air Force Academy is one Colonel A.M. Benyshek she would have have signed any letter not a General.Your friend is lying.I was in the Air Force I know where to find the information I want to know about commanders and you can look it up easily anyway. I some what dislike Air Force officers from the Academy to be frankly honest. You see when I was at basic training during the summer there where also cadets from Colorado that got to hang out with the TIs the idea was to see what basic training is like for enlisted the point of which I fail to see as they get the same experience from a discipline stand pint as we do their freshmen year. The problem is that each training squadrons commander had a different view on what these cadets could do in my squadron the 322nd they where not allowed to act like TI in any manner. At the squadron I had the misfortune of getting KP duty at the cadets where allowed to haze you in border line Russian military style short of physically touching you.WE got freaking needlessly ****ed with all damn day simply because these prep ass cadets had free reign to do what ever they wanted it really pissed me off when I noticed that several cadets assigned to my squadron where also there and there was no military discipline or training meaning or value to it.That is the way it goes in the Air Force you have the real workers the dogs and the Chair Force pencil pushing preps enlisted and officer who think they are high and mighty but you still get respect from the pilots no matter how they got the commission.Officers feel the same way towards each other as well in many cases according to a good friend from childhood who is an officer in the USAF via ROTC route.I am sure there are plenty of fine people from the AF Academy I and other airmen just had the misfortune of getting to be around the wrong ones at the wrong time. Yeah I bet they send out a hit squad after you each time you put that.
![]() I can see the person looking at the paper work saying "what do I do?" I have actually seen online applications where the page that asks those questions and claims that it is of no importance it is listed as a "step" meaning if you do not fill it in you app will not go through. I think they should do interviews over a phone system that also alters the persons voice so you can not tell sex or race by the voice and you also cant see each other that would be interesting. |

This illustrates why I am against quota rules. To me, it borders, no it oversteps the red line towards racism, and racist segregation in society. Distinctions based on legality, qualification, affordability, okay. But ethnic origin alone?
They should not do this as a reaction to compensate for ethnicity-based quota rules. Instead they should skip quota rules. there are criterions that should decide whether or not somebody is accepted at university. Intelligence. Compliance with laws, and basic values of the place we talk of. Previous pre-education. Mastery of the language. Generally: competence. What I can imagine as exclusion criterions, are: lacking qualification, a criminal record that raises doubts over the individual's present state (but do not rule out in general to give somebody a second chance - some deserve it), unbridgable cultural gaps, lacking integration of foreigners and lacking willingness to adapt, a general hostile ideologic background that is incompatible with the community's, ideologies especially of extremist political and religious nature. Skin colour or gender are none of these criterions. Skin colour and gender alone should neither qualify nor disqualify you. Again, not all people are equal, and not all people have what it takes, and not all people deserve second or third chances. But skin or hair colour, form of eyes or gender is not what should decide that.

Ever hear that Bob Marley song "War" there is a very truthful lyric in that song Haile Selassie I wrote them actually and Marley used them but:
until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned; until there are no longer first-class and second-class citizens of any nation; until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race; until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained. Some might argue that this sounds communist but no communist party has every treated people equally any better than any other system has. Not everyone cares about race and creed but there those that still think this way and the things that supposedly help avoid or counter this created by governments end up doing what they are supposed to stop. I agree with Skybirds post above.actually I agree with all the posts above mine by others on this page. Last edited by Stealhead; 08-04-11 at 07:39 PM. |

![]() [SA Orgy scene from Visconti's The Damned, 1969] Quote:
In 1968, I was beginning my senior year in high school. I was enrolled in the Jr. ROTC unit of my school and one day a large group of the cadets was comparing notes about college applications. At that time, colleges and other institutions and government agencies had just begun to include the requirement to state one's ethnicity of apllication and other forms. A very large percentage of the cadets found the requirement to be offensive. Some cadets who were of mixed ethnicity were uncertain as to what to write down and some, whose ethnicity was not listed balked at being lumped under the "other" category. (By the way, the school had a very mixed ethnic population and this was reflected in the makeup of the unit.) The discussion got a bit loud and the Army sargeant in charge of our unit, Master Sgt. Carter, came out of his office to see what we were all talking about. He had never seen a college application form with an ethnicty identification requirement before and was very disdainful of the practice. Sgt. Carter had served in W. Germany and had married a German woman and had recently become the proud father of a son. I should mention Sgt. Carter is African-American and his wife is a very blonde, very caucasian German. They are both very tall, dignified, very attractive people; someone once said they looked like a living special edition pair of Barbie and Ken dolls. We asked him how he would tell his son toi fill out a future form requiring a statement of ethnicity. He replied "I would tell him to write down 'human being' and nothing more." All of us cadets had our respect for Sgt. Carter greatly enhanced that day. By the way, the school I graduated from is in San Francisco, the city of my birth and childhood. I remember some one once saying "In San Francisco, you are first an American, secondly a San Franciscan, and lastly anyone or anything else you want to be."... |

When W.C Fields died, in his will, among other strange bequests was a bequest to start the "The W.C. Fields Home for Orphan White Boys and Girls, where no religion of any type is to be taught".
Fortunately or unfortunately the orphanage was never built. ![]()

Funny story, I was listening to a science teacher talking about something once (forgot what) but he talked about teaching in one of the inner city schools. He was teaching human biology and none of the class seemed to be following what he was talking about until one kid raised his hand and asked:
"Mr. ______ what is a "Human"?" ![]() |

Hmmm, I find that a bit hard to believe to frankly honest it was likely something that he made up to get students attention. That or the kids where being smart asses and it flew over the teachers head.
I strongly suspect that the kid had just smoked a spliff and was enjoying himself I had class mates that would get high come into class and say all manner of silly and stupid things.Part of the fun for the rest of the class was to see if the given teacher was stupid enough to believe the nonsense they where hearing or how rapidly the smart ass got kicked out off class. I had a 7th grade science teacher that was very adapt at shinning on unruly students. At the same I had another Science teacher later in school that never realized the pun of "Mr.Knucklehead are there gaseous clouds around your anus?" Any person who assume that all inner city kids are lacking in intelligence is sadly mistaken. If they can not teach any student or at least most of them (some but very few you just cant help) then they are not a skilled teacher trust me on this my mother was a teacher for 35 years and taught many under privileged inner city types as well as the well off kids at different schools when others did not bother or try hard enough it is a common occurrence for sometimes even nearly 40 year old people to come up and hug or speak to her that where former students(she started in 1968 and taught in some very rough districts in her career) I mean who is the real dumb ass the one who does not know what human means or the that actually believes that any person over 5 years old that is mentally able does not know what human means.
