No doubt about it, the front mast is a real sweet spot...

It varies... depends mostly on the type of ship and the weather/sea state.

In calm seas I am more likely to aim for what I hope is the engine room with the first eel, or for what I hope will be ammo storage on warships.

If the weather is rougher I like point 'B' especially with a magnetic. I've seen a lot of ships go down from one hit like that. Even with an impact into the side if the sea is rough enough, although it can take a while for the sea to finish the job in that scenario.

One magnetic going off properly right under the keel seems to be enough most of the time no matter what part of the ship I aim at.

As Frau says-it is pretty weather and ship dependent. I picked D for that particular ship mainly because the eel would be off a bit and hit under the stack at E-right in the engine spaces.

I have also had good luck aiming around B and C and letting her motion help drive her under, especially in rougher seas.

It also depends on how accurate my speed / aob calculations seem to be. If it's an exact perfect shot, I like to go for C (magnetic) in a ship like this one. With rough estimates, I aim right in the middle hoping that it will still hit somewhere between A and I.

Depends greatly on the weather, if it's a heavy fog and rough seas I'll do my best to take out the engines first.

If it's favorable conditions anywhere between B and E.
