Any and all pirates caught should be made an example of, and the punishment so heinous, as to give someone pause before deciding Piracy is a "good idea".

We should have left the pirates on the Quest and fed them some CIWS.

Are there not still international piracy laws on the books that guarantee a long fall with a short rope?

With the Hostages dead why are there any survivors? It will be another sham trial with prison sentence. That is not punishment when their living conditions improve!!!!

I am not a violent person but this needs a Biblical eye for an eye.

The story should have ended like this. "The ship was boarded and no survivors were found as the pirates out of guilt all committed (WINK WINK) suicide"

"In further news a mine layer accidentally lost its entire cargo of mines outside of a Somali port when one of its retaining ropes failed."

If its that dangerous, why do ships still sail close to Somalia
or do the pirates control the strait leading to to the Suez channel

Locations of recent pirate attacks and spotting in the Indian Ocean...

Not sure about the key but I think Red is Hijackings, Yellow are attacks and Greens are ships that evaded attack.

Can't be. We just sentenced one of the pirates to 15 years in prison (I think it was 15). I think the pirate we just sentenced was one from the Maersk Alabama hijacking. If I was a Somali pirate I'd want to be captured by the US. Our prisons are going to be a lot better than what they came from.

Title 18 U.S.C. § 1651 states:
Quote:
Whoever, on the high seas, commits the crime of piracy as defined by the law of nations, and is afterwards brought into or found in the United States, shall be imprisoned for life.

The Piracy charge didn't stick in that case. Technically they needed to steal something to be considered pirates under US Law.

EDIT: I was thinking about another incident the pirate who survived the Maersk Alabama incident plead guilty and got 33 years reprieve from the hell hole he came from.

I'm sure laws will differ from international waters to nation controlled waters. I've not kept up at all, but if they make it to Somalia, they're probably gonna be out of luck, it would be up to whatever government is there, so they're gonna be out of luck.

Still, these people know and are warned about these areas. If they want to go there to hand out bibles, visit, set records, ect...be willing to accept the risk. Even that being the case, it's shameful our government won't react when they can in international waters under naval military code..

In the days when they would be tortured, strung up, dismembered then left to rot in public at the entrance to ports it didn't seem to give pirates much pause.

Helps when they capture larger ships like these...

The Golden Wave

The Prantalay

IIRC the Prantalay was recaptured/destroyed by the Indian Coast Guard.
