Any news on fixing up those torpedo doors? I hope they do get a bit of a working-over - shame to see them in that state now.

The rest of the boat looks fantastic though - what a profile!

No joke, CCIP. I say we take that sheet metal off of the torpedo doors and use it to fabricate hatches for the sonar dome openings.

If you take note....there is a missing torpedo shutter. There are six shutters in the bow. You see only two shutters on the starboard side in the picture above. In between these two was another shutter. It is not as bad as it looks although new sheet metal would be the tops! Welding work begins this week so I'm told. In all reality the stern needs a sheet of steel. The bow is in wonderful shape compared to the port stern. A cathodic protection system is being installed as well.

Shutter on tube 5 removed:

Tube 3 access cover removed:

Repair on welded seam. Apparently quite a few of these are leaking and will be welded.

A photographic survey of the repairs will be done this weekend.

That middle photo of three above shows just how thin her skin must be in places.

She has some soft spots in the belly as it were. These are being repaired. My concern is the stern is missing quite a bit of sheet metal. I'm confident she will get what she needs!

I sincerely hope so because my experience (in the UK) is that 'once they are gone' they never return!
