Shutter on tube 5 removed:

Tube 3 access cover removed:

Repair on welded seam. Apparently quite a few of these are leaking and will be welded.

A photographic survey of the repairs will be done this weekend.

That middle photo of three above shows just how thin her skin must be in places.

She has some soft spots in the belly as it were. These are being repaired. My concern is the stern is missing quite a bit of sheet metal. I'm confident she will get what she needs!

I sincerely hope so because my experience (in the UK) is that 'once they are gone' they never return!

You know it occurs to me, all this work on the superstructure, but does any maintenance get done on the seaward side of the people tank?

New sheet metal! Look to the right and left of the new piece. See the other panels of steel that look quite fresh?

A volunteer has a personal boat he motors over through the bay. He can do what needs to be done with the boat. Plus there is a work barge that is tied along side. It is quite long and very useful for working seaward. You can see the barge here:

I mean, the pressure hull. (aka "people tank"). The superstructure is getting the needed attention, no doubt, but does anyone crawl in the spaces under the superstructure and work on the pressure hull proper?

Are you speaking of the void spaces between the superstructure deck and the top of the pressure hull, or are you referring to the insides of the fuel/ballast/freshwater/etc tanks?
