http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41139098...deastn_africa/ http://www.navy.mil/search/display.asp?story_id=58080 A U.S. Navy sailor from the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, the USS Halsey (DDG-97), is reported overboard in the Gulf of Oman. After the sailor failed to report for to her duty station, a muster was done and a search of the ship was conducted, but to no avail. A search of the A.O. is currently underway by elements of the USN and RN; the search has been ongoing for several hours now. |

Hope they find her, and I hope she remembered her training form boot camp.

I hope so too. You'd think you'd be safe out on a big DDG in the middle of the ocean rather than being an EOD/FMF HM/SEAL out on the battlefield.
As of right now, time is of the essence. |

It's my understanding that this happens much more on an Aircraft Carrier and that they don't always find the person. With 5,000+ people on one it's not hard to imagine that no one notices you being gone.
Time is of the essence as you said. Thankfully this happened in warmer waters where your stay time is nearly indefinite.

An excellent point. Re-reading the stories I see no mention of gender. In fact it's pretty much a copy paste job from Navy Times<->MSNBC. Don't know who copied who there.

Regardless of gender, a shipmate is out there who needs help.
From MSNBC: "NBC News Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski and NBC News producer Courtney Kube contributed to this report." Last edited by Kaye T. Bai; 01-18-11 at 06:48 PM. |

Unfortunate that they didn't find her alive, on the brighter side at least they recovered the body.

Sorry to hear it.
(It's times like this we really need a more serious salute smiley. The grin just doesn't fit sometimes.)
