I just hope it doesn't give an impetus to the FBI to set up would-be terrorists in ways that are more insidious. In his case, I also have to wonder whether instead of a set-up, a "we're on to you" warning after they discovered his contact might have done the job of spooking him enough.

According to the article he was given several opportunities to examine the ramifications of his planned action but it didn't deter him. Now there's a lot of room there for reading between the lines but on the face of it i'm not sure that spooking him was going to be enough.
