Default Alacrity PC the way to go!

Hi, I have been reading these forums for ages, but never felt I could add to the discussions and had all my questions answered by others already, however I do believe I can provide some insight to this question as I also use Alacrtiy PC. (Waay beter than Gamebooster I agree, far more powerful)

Firstly I use Windows XP SP3 so if you have a different OS YMMV.

I am absolutly ruthless with my APC, I set everythig (services) to "Stop then restart" except for Aitivirus, event log, Plug and Play, Security accounts manager, System Restore, Windows Audio, Windows Management instrumentation.

I turn all programmes to either "Stop" or "Stop then restart" depending.

I then choose to defrag my memory, Shutdown/restart Windows Shell/Desktop, Remove Desktop Wallpaper. Then I choose to put SH3 Commander as "Programs to start and Monitor"

Then I assign a specific Icon (Under the information tag) to the profile and then click and drag it to my desktop from the APC "Top Level Profiles" page.

When I want to run SH3 I just click that icon on my desktop and it automaticly sets the whole thing in motion.

So, no, I dont set SH3 to run from APC, just SH3 Commander, when SH3 Commander is open, you can set your changes and launch SH3 as normal from there. Yes all your changes take effect.

When you finish playing and close SH3, you should be at the SH3 Commander page again. When you Close that page, all your "Stop then Restart" programmes and Services will start again.

Whew, quite a story, but I hope it helps.

Exactly correct.
Turn off everything you can; if you crash go back and start adding.
Experiment
but that's another thread

Default UPDATE!

ok. i can get everything to shut down through the SHCommander profile.
then it comes to the Commander programme. behind it is black so all services are closed - no screen saver or anything except the alacrity dialogue box showing the script of *stop then start* services which have stoped. i click Commander and all the services begin to start again ?

so im a little flummoxed as to what is happening...

any clues?

cheers

Default Alacrity Clarity

Hey Sailor Steve and Jimbuna, thanks so much

JScones, thank you for putting us right, your explanation explains much.

So flag4, therefore AlacrityPC does NOT disable SH3CTSR.exe, because SH3CTSR.exe only goes into memory AFTER AlacrityPC has finished closing everything else, after which SH3CTSR.exe then loads SH3. So any settings you change in SH3 Commander will be loaded together with SH3, ie they are not affected by Alacrity PC which then also sits in memory awaiting your command to restart everything which it will do when you press "X" as already discussed, note: restarting AlacrityPC wil have no effect on SH3CTSR.exe, so you don't need to worry about SH3CTSR.exe exiting before SH3 Commander has rolled back, no matter when you press "X".

So it is imperative that any memory management applications do NOT disable SH3CTSR.exe, as doing so will effectively break SH3Cmdr from cleaning up after itself.

*I did have some grand plans for SH3CTSR.exe - for example, it could be used to intercept practically any SH3 operation or memory address, ie it could be used to fix the missing WO or any other number of things, however, I lost interest, so all it does it monitor whether SH3.exe is open or closed.

thanks to both of you for your help. many thanks to you WO for helping me through this. i appreciate your time and effort. your tabs check out like mine near enough. i notice you also have *pause processing* running too. it does say in the user guide you must have *continue processing* for the profile to save - so i dont understand that?
but it all seems to be running fine now. the only thing is my desk top wallpaper pops back up just before it switches to SHCommander, other than that all services/programmes seem to be shut without any glitches, so far!!.
pressing X appears to make no difference. when i have finished i just press Enter on keyboard and APC starts up again by starting all the services etc..
i hope this does not affect information gathered by SHCommander from my game.
again, many thanks

Me neither, but it works just fine like that.

Yes, mine too, I think its because the "Pause Processing" isnt as immediate as the restart.

Interesting, I must try that
