AlacrityPc/SH3Commander question
hi hunters
i *think*:hmmm: i have configured AlacrityPC for sh3 correctly but i am wondering if i have to go through sh3Commander instead of just going through the sh3 executable path - i hope you understand me - as i have not done this before. can i make changes in SHCommander and then activate the game through the AlacrityPC SH3 profile for these changes to be accepted in SHCommander and in-game? as i say, i hope you understand this. Alacrity seems to be working: it shuts down unneccasary services before the game kicks in and then activates them again afterwards - does this affect SHCommander in any way? or does it just by-pass SHCommader??? im a tad confused thanks in advance (edit: i think i have only 37 proceses running while the game is on and double numerous others are stopped - seems better than Game Booster. i could probably get more shut down when i understand what they are. any one with Alacrity running on their system may have some advice i would love to hear!!) Edit, again at 5.09pm: a more simplified version: can SH3 be activated 'through' SHCommander using AlacrityPc. and do the changes that are made in SHCommader still take affect? |
Alacrity PC the way to go!
Hi, I have been reading these forums for ages, but never felt I could add to the discussions and had all my questions answered by others already, however I do believe I can provide some insight to this question as I also use Alacrtiy PC. (Waay beter than Gamebooster I agree, far more powerful)
Firstly I use Windows XP SP3 so if you have a different OS YMMV. I am absolutly ruthless with my APC, I set everythig (services) to "Stop then restart" except for Aitivirus, event log, Plug and Play, Security accounts manager, System Restore, Windows Audio, Windows Management instrumentation. I turn all programmes to either "Stop" or "Stop then restart" depending. I then choose to defrag my memory, Shutdown/restart Windows Shell/Desktop, Remove Desktop Wallpaper. Then I choose to put SH3 Commander as "Programs to start and Monitor" Then I assign a specific Icon (Under the information tag) to the profile and then click and drag it to my desktop from the APC "Top Level Profiles" page. When I want to run SH3 I just click that icon on my desktop and it automaticly sets the whole thing in motion. So, no, I dont set SH3 to run from APC, just SH3 Commander, when SH3 Commander is open, you can set your changes and launch SH3 as normal from there. Yes all your changes take effect. When you finish playing and close SH3, you should be at the SH3 Commander page again. When you Close that page, all your "Stop then Restart" programmes and Services will start again. Whew, quite a story, but I hope it helps. |
Exactly correct.
Turn off everything you can; if you crash go back and start adding. Experiment but that's another thread |

i have been back and tried to configure using Commander as a profile but its all gone wrong! it worked using the original SH3 profile but i need it to go through commander - oh well, back to the grind stone:oops:! |
UPDATE!
ok. i can get everything to shut down through the SHCommander profile.
then it comes to the Commander programme. behind it is black so all services are closed - no screen saver or anything except the alacrity dialogue box showing the script of *stop then start* services which have stoped. i click Commander and all the services begin to start again ? so im a little flummoxed as to what is happening... any clues? cheers |
OK, Flag4, try this:
Under the Auto Start tab, make sure SH3Cmdr.exe is set to "Monitored". If it isnt, double click the line and a dialogue box will open up where you can set it. Then, on the "Optimisation" tab, under "Msc options", where it says "After monitored programs have been closed" select "Pause processing" in the drop down menu. Now when you close SH3 and Sh3 Commander, you will be left with the Alacrity PC box. Just type "X" and it will restart everything. (Note: your wallpaper might restart before it pauses, but other than that it should work fine). Let us know if this sorts it out. |

and yet i must be doing something wrong within Alacrity for the programme to *stop then start* before the game has exited? maybe a box unchecked or checked that changes this to what is going wrong. thanks again WO, maybe you have some more good ideas/thoughts on what i am doing wrong. when i ran it through the original SH3 profile i was merciless with the services to shut down - there were only a handful left AND it worked? cheers! |
Alacrity PC with SH3 Commander
flag4,
I don't think anything wrong is happening. I think that SH3 Commander exits just after it launches SH3. This would explain why the Alacrity PC restart happens before SH3 is loaded! As you were experiencing. I believe that when you exit SH3, the Sh3 Commander loads again. In other words, it is working just as it should. So, you activate the profile, Sh3 Commander comes on, you load SH3 from SH3 Commander, Sh3 Starts, Sh3 Commander switches off, when you are finished, you switch off SH3, then SH3 Commander turns itself back on, so you can use it again, by editing logs, going to the bar, assigning medals etc. You can hit the "X" at any time after SH3 exits, you don't have to wait for SH3 Commander to exit. Have I understood you correctly? |
Instead of using "stop then restart" use just "stop".
When you are finished with the game, just reboot your computer. Or you can do as above. |

when i start through SHCommander it loads through APC and does the job of switching everything off - correct. then when SHCommander has done this job its time is over, it finishes - so, APC does its job now by switching everything back on SHCommader does not run constantly in the background of SH3 -am i right? it only saves the game settings on exit of the game? if this is so, then, its logic that APC switches everything off then starts again as soon as SHCommander is finished - which is just before SH3 begins. if this is right, how the H***:DL can i make APC run through Commander and into SH3. it would seem that this is not possible: i am only able to run APC just before SH3 or just before Commander, but not both? i can only use *PAUSE PROCESSING* in APC. i think i have understood you. but i dont think i know how to use APC to switch off everything at Commander and start again finishing with Commander. i hope you understand this!! i am very grateful for your time on this WO - it has helped clear out my missunderstaning - i think!! Flag4 - I am coming in late to the party, but last year when I was messing around with APC it acted EXACTLY as you discribe. It is monitoring ONE and ONLY ONE program - in this case SH3Cmdr. So everything happens while monitoring this program, then when it shuts down while starting SH3 - all your presets kick back in. It is why I quit using it - never did find a solution. Of course, I ain't all that smart - some o' th' other folks hyar jist may figure it out!

yesterday i spent 6 hours in and out of Alacrity thinking i was going blind with frustration......:wah: maybe there is a work-around, something the proffesional Alacrity pc users have figured out. do you use anything now to shut down processes/programmes, i would be interested to hear from you. thanks for posting Draka:salute: maybe it should become a sticky on how to configure Alacritypc. here is the User-Written *how to* from the Alacritypc web sight http://snomhf.exofire.net/alacrityPC.html |
SH3 Commander with Alacrity PC
No, I think that SH3 Commander loads your SH3 with all the settings you have put into SH3 Commander, it then no longer needs to be open as its settings have already been inserted into SH3 when SH3 Commander loaded it. When SH3 closes it loads SH3 Commander again, when then lets you update crew etc, before saving your last patrol.
I am sure if this is incorrect then someone will be along to correct me. Believe me, SH3 Commander and Alacrity PC work well together, I always use both of them and have never been dissapointed, except perhaps when I first started using APC, I also had trouble getting to learn all the settings. Anyway, persevere, it DOES work. Also have a look at the Troubleshooting guide at the back of the SH3 Commander manual. As I said in my first post, I use XP Pro SP3, if you are using Vista or Win 7, then I am not sure how different the setup will be. |
