Could've been a Tribal class DD I spose? Think they have the angled stacks, though I've never made it into 43' or even that late into the war so I have no idea what type of equipment upgrades they get.

Might've also been a Black Swan

Probably not a Tribal - he mentions a "stack" in the original post (implying one), and all Tribals had two funnels.

In addition, Tribals weren't very good ASW vessels, being designed for fleet actions - I think they had fewer DC racks and DC's than many smaller escorts. Black Swan sounds about right.

Precisely....nor were they fitted with hedgehogs.

The post-war canadian vessels were fitted with Squid.

This may sound strange...........
BUT!
Here is what I thought a 'County' might be.

I thought maybe it was some code speak type thing.
A number of Towns in a given area are in a County.
So if I say a 'County' is comeing after me,
it means several 'Town Class' are closeing.

So.......
If I say:
I deep sixed the Gangster in my last patrol.
I mean:
I sunk the Hood.

Then I read the post over several times and realized how it was ment.
It was ment as if 2 guys were in a Sub and talking.
So 'County' could be any name for an unknown Class Ship attacking.
And I found it funny (The Mullet part) and very clear then.

And who hasn't trembled at the sight of a Flock? (Swans)

Or taken glee in sinking the Nerd Class? (Nelson and Rodney)

@desirableroasted

No hard feelings mate. Sometimes the internets do this to people, myself included

@Jimbuna

I think she may have been of the Captain Class, I was wrong thinking the funnel was swept aft, it was only the 'nub' at the top I guess. I distinctly remember that feature. Regardless of what she was, she kicked hell out of me. I knew I was pushing it at this stage of the war taking on a convoy but I had set up my attack well and lady luck had been on my side all career. What surprised me was the perfect execution of their counter attack; lightning fast with overwhelming firepower coupled with precise accuracy. It was like I had poked 7 sleeping bears with 14 sticks.

Edit: Captain Class armament is rough but not as bad as I originally estimated. Must have been the other escorts dropping cans as well and my mind going to all ahead panic as my boat sprung a billion leaks It appears I experienced "the fog of war", er ah, "the haze o' sub-simming"

Captain Class Armament
3 3" guns
9 20mm guns
4 depth charge projectors
2 depth charge tracks
1 hedgehog

I agree, but I'll always check the ID book even if I know what ship it is I still need to know it's specs so I can prepare and place a shot...But in 1943 I think I'll sit on the side lines(mostly due to a new mod I installed).

The irony, I eat warships for breakfast yet this one always seems to get away(and leaves a nasty surprise behind too!).

Sounds like a hunt class to me. They're armed with depth charge throwers and hedgehogs and are not afraid to let loose if they get a sniff of you. One I can get away from, two is difficult, three and I'm writing my will.....

From what I've seen (in game) the Hunt 1 is more of a pest than a problem, but a Hunt 2 is ok and a Hunt 3 I don't mess with those guys... even if I'm submerged... they can smell fear

I don't find Hunts particularly bothersome as a Class, but Hunt III's seem dangerous because they seem to get experienced crews.

IRL, a Hunt I had 40 DCs, and the II and IIIs had 110. All else was the same. So, in the game, any difference between a II and III must be attributed to crew skill and ASW equipment.

Almost no Hunts were sunk by U-boats.
