What Class took my scalp?
My last career ended in `43 when an allied ship with what seemed like 8-10 rear/side ashcan dispensers and a slew of forward hedgehogs laid out such a murderous pattern that I was kaput in minutes once he locked on. His depth finding was uncanny (I was at ~230 meters and trying every trick in the book). His cohorts kind of backed off and let this ship free kick my private bits.
It went like this: -Sink 2 high value, super large tonnage fat-girls from the Convoy *high- five!* -A couple escorting corvettes try to zero me in, I evade successfully -3 more corvettes slide in, as well as the bad mammer-jammer who comes along (ASDIC deafening ) and: BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBO OM BOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBOOMBO OM Me=:dead: Anybody know what class she was? Her stack was raked aft and angled over towards the deck a the funnel and she flew a RN ensign. Any period pics? I've played a while and never encountered this gnarly Kraken previously. Must avoid these buggers... What else is out there I should know about? The fury of a well coordinated HK group is jaw-dropping late `43. (Off to research) |

What's a 'County'? |
@desirableroasted AKA 'Nothing Constructive to Add'
Thanks for the mind-blowing insight... |
Actually he offered one great insight: Look through the ID book until you recognize the one you saw.

Probably just got jumped by a late-war DD and my memory of the ship does not match any images I try to compare it to (in game or otherwise). I don't often reach `43 playing DID in a type VIIC. I was trying to save my boat while all this was happening so I didn't get a positive ID while fighting a losing battle. I'll just wait till I see another whenever that may be.
I've been playing this sim for about a year and some change. I was only asking if somebody knew offhand by the description of the stack and the armament. Apologies I guess... |

I got no time fanning around with the ID book when a Destroyer comes my way in 1943, to busy trying to shake off the bleeder. :ping:

@Cpt. Martin....here are a few sils of single stack escorts (some were never fitted with hedgehogs) for you to look at, it would have been far easier if you had of been able to take a screeenshot though (I do realise some people don't have external view enabled). I should have been less flippant, and I apologize for that.
Naturally, arrogant flippancy always has its price. In my case, it made me type "County" when discussing DDs, when anyone knows County Class DDs didn't show up until... well, after Elvis, anyway. I will probably be cursed with 40 passenger/cargos filled with balsa wood on my next patrol, and I deserve that. So @Capt Martin, please accept my apologies. But I stick to my point: We all have the same ID manual, and only you know what you saw. So only you can identify it. How can any of us? |
To you both...SINK EM ALL!! http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...ies/pirate.gif
