I just brought "Spellforce The Order of Dawn" a RPG game cos at times i like playing games where im Conan the Barbarian with big axe and sword and two babes to give me pleasure, ok im dreaming yup but this game comes with starforce and funny thing i got none of the problems. I think from my answer in a other thread works, Turn of System Restore before you play a game with SF protection.

I'm a game developer and also totally against this sort of "we must defeat piracy" nonsense.

First of all, as no anti-piracy system will ever remain uncracked, and it only causes hassle for legitimate customers. Meanwhile it rackets up development costs licensing and integrating these systems.

A much better system is to accentuate the social aspect and positive nature of supporting artists. That your game is marketed properly and distributed widely is far more important for your bottom line than whether or not you have some baroque anti-piracy system.

I play my games through a dvd burner and have never had any problems. However, I don't like the fact that they don't explicity tell you what they are installing to your pc. Straforce barely slows down "priates" and makes life very difficult for the average consummer.

I wasn't even planning to bit** about this subject here....as it's been covered many times over. But maybe someone new can learn something.

My hardrive crashed last Saturday...no choice but a full format, losing everything. Currently, SH3 is my only interest, so there we go....hours and hours of downloads. Even though GWX 2.0 is due out soon, I still wanted the current 1.3 so got that too.

This time, anticipating that this could happen again, after getting all the downloads, attempted to burn them to a CD or DVD. And image that, no matter what I tried, nothing would burn!. (I had already installed and ran Sh3) The next day, it dawned on me...STARFARCE!

Got the so called removal tool, which didn't work...wound up deleting all SF entries in the registry, and Bingo...burning ability had returned...and now have all personal Mods, updates, patces, etc etc on a DVD.

I suspect that as soon as I run the game again, SF will again be installed, even though I run the No-CD "mod".

But just wanted to pass the word...once again...SF can/will disable the abilty to burn!

SF is ****e.

After i installed the SF update for Vista, before running SH3 for the first time, i restart and notice the red light doesn't stop running. Nor can i run SH3, just crashes to desktop each time, also dvd drive now cannot read dvds 100% at times i get "please insert dvd" Yet it is inserted!!!

So got no choice but to uninstall SF - guess what the red light stopped running after deletion, dvd drive recognises dvds.

SF is total crap.
