Welcome aboard

Once you install GWX, hang out near BE39 first half of 1941. Lots of convoys with BB escort.

STAY AWAY FROM SHALLOW WATER!

The game doesn't recognize that you killed a ship, thus it will show up later. If you sink Hood in 1939, she'll still spawn in 1941.

I was thinking (hoping) the game would have a database being a dynamic campaign, and would keep the ships in the database. If the ship was sunk, it would be registered in the database when you return to port, thus when you leave port, the game would read the database and if the ship were registered as sunk from a last patrol, it would not spawn in any future patrol.
But I guess that's just blissful dreams, huh ?!

I can't recall meeting the same ship again later on, as I use SH3 Commander's realistic career length option. However, I have read accounts from other players who sunk a major ship and then saw it later in the war. Call it anecdotal evidence unless we hear from an authority figure like a GWX mod designer.

Once I sunk the Hood and meet him again during the next patrol, sunk again, but it was not recognized by the game.

Every ship or class of ships has an appearance and disappearance date defined in a cfg file. The app. date is usually the date when they entered the service in RL,
the disapp. date is when they were sunk or if they survived the war then it's some date after the end of the war.
For example app.d. for the Hood is 11.12.1920,disapp.d. 25.05.1941,it means that every time you start a patrol between september '39 and june '41 you can encounter and sunk him.
Another example could be the Bismark with the disapp.d. 27.05.1941,that means you cannot save the Bismark no matter what you do,it will be sunk.
It's possible to edit these dates manually, but I don't know how will the game react to that.

As incredible and urban legendish as it sounds, I was able to sink the Hood 4 times in a single patrol; albeit this was in GWX 2.1 and I'm almost 100% positive the bug/situation that I ran into can't repeat itself again.

First day of the war ran at flank to Portsmouth where the Hood (actually) was anchored and nailed it in the first few hours of war being declared. Went up to Liverpool and saw something that just was too good to be true, there were 2 Hood's in the port. Finally went into Scapa and sunk the 4th one there and the floating dock and ended up with almost 250,000 tons on the first patrol. The whole patrol took less than a week. Since this was all in first few days of war there weren't many nasty subnets in place yet or many DD's patrolling ports. Have since seen multiple warships in a taskforce (like 2 George V's, Rodney and a slew of escorts) but never again 2 of the same ships double parked.

Whether it be harbor raiding or at sea, capital ships will always be where they were at their historical points in time (i.e. the Royal Oak will be in Scapa, though you'll find Scapa almost full if you go a few days before - something that the British got really lucky on. The home fleet sailed out of Scapa 2 days before Prien got there; had they waited a few more days to leave Scapa could've looked like Pearl Harbor when Prien left) whether it is in a port, a task force or engaged in a battle.

Once the Med bases open its relatively easy to find task forces/captial ships if that's what you're after. Based in La Spezia you can rack up enormous merchant shipping, from Salamis you're constantly running into them (imo) whether that's you're objective or not. Always plenty of big ships going between Alexandria and Gibraltor/Italy.

So much can be said that if you lower the Hood,

let us say before, so you are able to do it again, to a certain limit of course, but there are other members here, who are more familiar with this issue now if this is all about layout or similar,
