The readme says to modify these two files:

Copy and paste the following line into your

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX3.0\data\Sea\EnglishNames CFG:

SCF=Small Coastal Freighter

For German players (GermanNames CFG):

SCF=kleiner Küstenfrachter

For French players (FrenchNames CFG):

SCF=petit cargo côtier

Copy and paste the following into your

C:\Program Files\SH3 CommanderGWX3.0\Cfg\Ship names Cfg:

[LOV]
0001=Q Ship HMS Chatsgrove
0002=Q Ship HMS Maunder
0003=Q Ship HMS Prunella
0004=Q Ship HMS Lambridge
0005=Q Ship HMS Edgehill
0006=Q Ship HMS Brutus
0007=Q Ship HMS Cyprus
0008=Q Ship HMS Looe
0009=Q Ship HMS Antoine
0010=Q Ship USS Atik
0011=Q Ship USS Captor
0012=Q Ship USS Asterion
0013=Q Ship Uss Big Horn
0014=Q Ship USS Irene Forsyte

For my stock Windows 7 install of SH3 and GWX 3, there is no path for:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\GWX3.0\data\Sea\EnglishNames CFG:

I have:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sea\EngishNames .cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MODS\GWX - Fix French\data\sea\EngishNames.cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Submarine\Engis hNames.cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Land\EngishName s.cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MODS\GWX - Fix French\data\Air\EngishNames.cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Air\EngishNames .cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MODS\GWX - Fix French\data\Land\EngishNames.cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\MODS\GWX - Fix French\data\Submarine\EnglishNames.cfg
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Ordnance\Englis hNames.cfg

Which file should I modify?

Likewise I have no file:
C:\Program Files\SH3 CommanderGWX3.0\Cfg\Ship names Cfg:

I do have a:
C:\Program Files (x86)\SH3 Commander\Cfg\Ship names.cfg

Which is the one I modified.

My OS is XP Pro and not W7 (I will have W7 within the week though) I'm afraid but IIRC the C:\Program Files (x86)\SH3 Commander\Cfg\Ship names.cfg should be the correct one....back it up first just in case.

Are you using SH3Commander?

If not then ignore adding the individual [LOV] ship names but if you are you will need to locate the location of the ship mames CFG file.

Isn't there anyone using SH3 Commander and the W7 OS around these parts?

I came across my first Q ship last night, cheeky bugger even fired at me!

I don't get the Q Ship named in the logs either, not in SHIII itself, or within SHIII Commander. I'm pretty sure I added the lines in the right place. I'm running on XP though, so I can't help with the Win7 installation. At a guess :

C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Sea\EngishNames .cfg is the right file within the sim and C:\Program Files (x86)\SH3 Commander\Cfg\Ship names.cfg should be the correct one within SHIII Commander.

Like I said though, I could be wrong, because it isn't working for me

I am using SH3Commander.

Are you saying with commander I modify a different CFG file?

Try searching for the the line Pebble Monkey suggests:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SH3 Commander\Cfg\Ship names.cfg

As I said earlier, I won't have the W7 OS for about a week

The problem might be that starting with Windows Vista, the UAC in Windows messes up the changes of files when SH3 and/or SH3 Commander are installed inside the Program Files or Program Files (x86) folders. The solution is to install them outside of those files. Example C:\Games\ That way the UAC will not effect changes.

You may well be right.

The fact is the mod was created before W7 was released so I simply can't state what the situation is.....at least until I get the W7 OS.

Or you can do like I do and just turn off UAC. You don't need it if you have an ounce of sense and proper computer protection with firewalls and anti-viruses.
