With IRAI, I had some wonderful hide and seek play, for a while. OK, the reason I was first pinged and find out was that I kept my obs scope too long surfaced. There was this one British destroyer that saw my periscope. I was at the Canal, passing it. When I realize that Destroyer saw me, I ordered dive to 40 meters. No more room to play with, pretty shallow waters...

And the game starts. The Clock was about 10 o'clock. I ordered silent running amd did what ever I could to evade depth charges. It went well and I had evaded enemy about two hours, (in game time), depth charges went way of my position and I felt pretty confident about my escape, maybe we can make this through! Then I heard a second ping. I'm not sure how many soundlayers game can handle, but I was sweating already. I took minor damage from the depth charges, so they went pretty close. After a while, I decided to see what was goind on on the surface, and got to the periscope depth. There were FIVE destroyers hunting me down! I decided to go down again. My evading prosedures cause me no good, more beating, soon I have to blow my ballast, underwater propulsion is gone. No reaction, I can not get my sub to the surface!

After a while of repairing my sub is able to surface, facing 8 destroyers on the surface! I tried to survive. But they got me... Game over.

But after all this one was the most thrilling encounter with the enemy forces I have experienced! Try IRAI by TheDarkWraith.

Yes IRAI is great, but the topic of this thread is more along the lines of what happens to your boat as the depth charges go off; flickering lights, sparks, things breaking, that sorta thing.

As it stands right now. If DC goes explodes next to my boat but outside of damage radius, I get no shake, shimmy, rattle, sparks, bolt breaks, glass breaks at all. The boat should still get rocked a bit even though it is not taking any damage.
I think increasing the Damage of the Depth Charge is not the Answer. Currently if a Depth Charge explodes close to the boat it can sink you and increasing the Damage isnt going to change the range for any of the effects. We may need to add another Damage Zone that expands the blast effect radius but is purely for these effects without taking actual damage to the sub.

Could we do this by making the second damage zone worth only 1 point or part of a point? Furthermore, could we scale the effect by adding multiple damage zones? Level one: boat shakes a bit, level two: more violent shake and maybe some rattling, level three and above: lights explode, pipes burst, etc.

Thanks Mates for your input....I like the previous 3 ideas...they hit it on the head. That would really be good.
It seems that an SH4 mod did a good job.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Concentric Rings around the boat and or around the Depth Charge. If we did both we could really extend the range for the DC to shake the boat.

Is it possible to have a damage zone worth zero points to get shake without damage?
