I really like that idea, Bubblehead. My dad's ship, the USS Tamalpais, was in Tokyo Bay for the formal surrender, and it was evidently quite a sight to behold. Of course, only the shooting part of the war was over. The task of rebuilding was only beginning to be appreciated.

I stay in touch with my dad's shipmates, and one of them sent me these shots of their ship riding at anchor close by the USS Missouri.

Like I said, it must have been really something to see.

I had the same issue with SH3.

Both games are pretty emotionally draining. It would be nice for some closure other than the programming credits.

Especially SH4 as we are on the winning side in that game.

Very coo flatsixes that your father was there and you have kept in touch with his friends. Wish I had time I would volunteer to do the traffic, just need a modder to fix it so that it shows up and can move into Tokyo Bay for the Surrender in Sept 45.Could prob be done.....prob have to make sure japanese airbases and ships exit at right date, US ships appear at correct date, make sure the campaign wont end game until say September 4 at midnight.

Edit: I just put a request out in the modders forum for someone with the know how to implement the changes.I volunteered to do the harbor traffic for Tokyo Bay, just need someone with the knowledge on how to make it all come together, I majored in pre law and legal studies in college, the computer courses I took didnt cover this stuff, wish I had been into SH 4 a long time ago, I would have.Oh well.Hopefully someone will be willing to work this out.Any materials anyone has on the ships that were in Tokyo Bay on surrender and positions in the bay, send me a link.Want it to be as accurate as possible.

You guys are an awesome bunch. I wish that I could be of some assitance in the modding dept., but I've only just recently qualified on "right click the mouse." I'd be more than happy to lend a hand doing research or providing entertainment (Ever see a lawyer tap dance? Not pretty.)

Here's a listing of the vessels that were present in Tokyo Bay on September 5, 1945 (not yet independently verified). http://everything2.com/title/Allied+...527s+Surrender

Quite a roster, eh?

I'm sure that would crash the game!

You are a lawyer flat? I start Law School this Fall

Thanks for the list, I have been doing some research as well.Doubt could include all of them but could include all the major like the BB's and CV's(notice no fleet carriers were present) then include a couple reps of each type.

I will make sure your father's ship is in there near the Mighty Mo If anyone can find a visual reference showing the positions of the ships in Tokyo Bay, that would be great so can be accurate.

Congratulations, Bubblehead. Law school (if it's successful) is a real brain-changer. Folks that you've known you whole life simply won't believe what a complete &*^%#&* you've managed to become after only a few short months! Really, enjoy the experience. It's the once in a lifetime kind.

I'll hunt around and see if I can find out any information on what ships were anchored where in Tokyo Bay that day. I do remember my father telling me that Halsey sent a squadron of mine sweepers a couple of days ahead of the big boys to clear the harbor, promptly followed by the hospital ships to recover the Allied POW's. My father's ship, the Tamalpais, came into the bay with the hospital ships. (The Tamalpais was new construction, and never carried oil, only fresh water, which, my dad never failed to inform, was infinitely more valuable than oil in the Pacific war, although the USN was late to realize it .) No fleet carriers came into the bay, but instead stood off outside to provide air cover. There was a very real concern that fanatical elements might stage suicide attacks on the fleet, so things were a bit more tense than the pictures let on.

I have always wondered. In both German and American campaigns in SHIV, what were to happen if you refuse the order to end offensive actions. Rather, you continue on an endless patrol hunting ships, if possible. Has anyone ever tried something like that?

The program automatically ends your career at the end of the war. You can't continue.

Not only that but you're then sinking neutral shipping and will negatively impact your renown.

The mod would be a lot like Fred's early Pearl Harbor start, which I imagine is a lot of work, but his mod makes sense, an end of war mod doesn't.

You could script the traffic, missions, etc, but it would be a mass work depending on what mods you would use it with. Most mods continue traffic until 12/31/45, but you never see it because the war ends. You would have to make every attack platform neutral. If you added all the traffic for the surrender, it would be one laggy load.

The biggest issue is I don't think the game has a career end file that can be adjusted like a carrer start file, so probably no matter what you do the game will end when the japs surrender.

Anyway, if it could be done, it would be a mass undertaking with little reward, not to mention a laggy mess for all the ships at surrender.

Not true at all, I kept going one time and kept advancing time.. Before I knew it, it was 1980.. Sure enough, I ran into the USS Nimitz carrier unit, but before I could catch up to it, it entered some weird storm and disappeared.. The storm looked funny but before it disappeared I took a quick screen shot

so.. As you can see, you can keep going forward if you want.

I heard of someone advancing to 2012 and they saw old wwii battleships fighting aliens or something, probably BS, but who knows
